What Does The Bible Say?
Luke 9
51 As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem (Luke 9:51 NLT)
While everyone was marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples, 44 “Listen to me and remember what I say. The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies.” 45 But they didn’t know what he meant. Its significance was hidden from them, so they couldn’t understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about it. (Luke 9:43–45 NLT)
Jesus was on His way to the cross.
57 As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” (Luke 9:57–58 NLT)
Following Jesus means hardship.
59 He said to another person, “Come, follow me.” The man agreed, but he said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” 60 But Jesus told him, “Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:59–60 NLT)
Following Jesus means urgency, make no excuses.
61 Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family.” 62 But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:61–62 NLT)
Following Jesus means intentional focus.
28 Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. 30 When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:28–30 NLT)
Jesus gave His life for the Kingdom, He expects the same from you!
How Can We Obey?
Christ wants all of you, or nothing at all.
Question 1 of 5
Why doesn’t God make life easy for His children?
Question 2 of 5
How does our willingness to serve show Jesus’ presence in our life? What is one unexpected act of service you offer to do this week?
Question 3 of 5
Jesus was clear that He was the only way to have a relationship with God the Father, and the only path to heaven (John 14:6). How do some people (even Christians) push back on this exclusive claim of Jesus?
Question 4 of 5
Peter, one of Jesus’ closest friends, vigorously denied three times that he even knew the Lord (Luke 22:54-62). What are ways we deny Jesus and act like we don’t know him?
Question 5 of 5
Hebrews 10:19-22 points out three things that happen when we enter a relationship with Jesus.
We can draw near to God with absolute confidence. We no longer have a guilty conscienceWe live with a sense of being cleaned and pure.
What can we do on a daily basis to walk in an intimate and living relationship with God?
