Repent from Sin

Sin is serious (Piper)
It insults the sufferings of Christ
1 John 3:8 (ESV) — 8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
It suggests that we have Satan’s nature
1 John 3:8 (ESV) — 8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
It jeopardizes assurance of salvation
1 John 2:3–4 (ESV) — 3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,
It is serious because it can put you beyond the reach of hope
1 John 5:16–17 (ESV) — 16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
Sin has a solution

Repent from Righteousness

We know the solution for sin, but we tend to forget the solution for righteousness
Actually we forget that we need to repent from righteousness at all, but that is actually our greatest need
Throughout the Bible you always meet two kinds of people. Sinners and those who think they are righteous. It would be accurate to think of both groups as sinners, but I think we will be able to move along further if we use different terminology.
The work of Jesus is twofold. On the cross he took my place.
