Faithfulness

When the Bible speaks of faithfulness as being reliable, steadfast, unwavering, constancy. It is to be Trustworthy.
It is of course one of the Fruits of the Spirit that is found in Galatians 5, and therefore it a major aspect or characteristic of a Christian’s life. It should be present and prevalent in the lives of those who trust God.

God’s Faithfulness

We find faithfulness first in God Himself. Over and over we learn in Scripture that when God says He will do something he does it.
Deuteronomy
9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations
1 Kings 8:56 ESV
“Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant.
God’s faithfulness stems from God Himself, and without it he would not be God. God is eternally reliable, steadfast, and unwavering because faithfulness is one of His inherent attributes. God does not have to work at being faithful; He is faithful. Faithfulness is an essential part of who He is
Psalm 89:8 ESV
O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O Lord, with your faithfulness all around you?
It is true for the past the present and the future. We can have full trust that the promises of God will be fulfilled.
1 Thessalonians 5:24 ESV
He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
In His faithfulness, God protects us from evil
2 Thessalonians 3:3 ESV
But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
sets limits on our temptations
1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
forgives us of sin
1 John 1:9 ESV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
and sanctifies us
Philippians 1:6 ESV
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
If God was not faithful, we would have no hope of salvation, and no hope in overcoming any of the struggles of this life

The Call to Faithfulness

A proper understanding of God’s faithfulness should lead us to be faithful. We are to strive on a daily basis to look more like Christ in our lives. Faithfulness is a fruit of the spirit, evidence of our salvation. So it should be present and prevalent in all believers’ lives.
Whether it is the big things, such as being faithful in marriage and business. Or
In the new testament, faithfulness is most commonly used in the context of stewardship of our gifts for ministry and service.
1 Corinthians 4:1–4 ESV
This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself. For I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me.
Faithfulness is the mark of gospel ministers and Christian servants. That’s why Paul urges Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:2 to pass on Paul’s teaching “to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”
Clearly, then, faithfulness entails the wise stewardship of the Word of God. It implies both diligence in work ethic and skill in opening up the truth whenever opportunity allows. This is what it means to be a faithful steward. But faithfulness is a ministry term applied to every Christian, not only to ordained ministers of the gospel. In 3 John 5–6, for example, the Apostle describes the practice of Christian hospitality as an act of faithfulness: “Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, who testified to your love before the church.”
We are all yearning to here the words “well done good and faithful servant”
