The Sin of Rebellion Part 2
Text: 1 Samuel 15:23 (KJV 1900)
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord…
Introduction:
* The entire Bible is the story of one massive rebellion- A rebellion against God that began before the creation of the earth.
* The first personality in this long story of rebellion against God, the original rebel, and the instigator of all rebellion that would come thereafter, was the one we call the Devil, Satan- Lucifer.
* The Scriptures tell us that Lucifer was the ultimate of all God’s created creatures.
* Speaking of Lucifer, or the Devil, the prophet Ezekiel reveals to us that the Devil was originally an angel, a cherub, who was full of wisdom, perfect in beauty and created by God.
* Ezekiel speaks of the Devil as being in the Garden of Eden and that he was a created being…
* Satan was not satisfied in his rebellion against God himself, but he began to spread, or “traffick” his rebellion to the other angles in heaven.
* We gather from the scriptures that the Devil rebelled against God, and that during this rebellion in Heaven, Satan took a third of all the angels of God with him in this rebellion against the authority of God.
* The apostle John in the book of Revelation was given a vision of the history of this great rebellion and he reveals the details to us in Revelation chapter 12:
* But leading a third of the angels in Heaven in a rebellion against God was not enough for Lucifer; he then began to spread his rebellion to the men who God had placed upon the earth.
* We see this in Genesis chapters 2 and 3, how that Satan caused the first man and woman in the Garden of Eden to rebel against the authority of God over them.
* Notice that it was what God had said, the “Word of God,” that the Devil caused them to rebel against.
* The “Word of God,” represents the authority of God.
* That is why the Devil hates the Bible this morning, because it represents the authority of God over the lives of man and angelic beings alike.
* Satan has rejected God’s authority, and Satan’s chief occupation is to cause men to rebel against the “Word of God.”
* And so Satan has recruited mankind to rebel against the authority of God, and man’s default behavior is to rebel against the rule of God over himself.
* In the Garden of Eden the Devil said to Eve “Hath not God said?” And the devil caused her to rebel against the Words of God.
* The chief end of the Devil here in this congregation this morning is to cause you to rebel against the “Words of God” in your heart like the Devil did,- like a third of the angels did,- and like Adam and Eve did!
* and that’s why the Devil hates this Bible this morning- because it represents the authority of God over him, and that’s why men hate the Bible this morning- because the Bible, the “Word of God,” represents the God’s authority over them!
* And so God hates the sin of rebellion this morning, and the entire Bible is one continuous story of a rebellion against God, and the judgment of those who rebel against Him and His Word.
* God hates the sin of rebellion this morning and that is why our text verse says:
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord…
* Now let’s look at together our text again this morning and put it in its context.
* First of all I want you to see that God uses a comparison of two things to show us how evil the sin of rebelling against God’s word is- 1). Witchcraft and 2). Idolatry.
* The Holy Spirit here is creating a visual image in the mind of the reader of how evil the sin of rebellion is, by comparing rebelling against the Word of God to things that we all agree, are extremely grievous and evil in the eyes of God-
Witchcraft and the worshiping of Idols.
* Look at our text again:
Text: 1 Samuel 15:23 (KJV 1900)
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord…
* The rebellion in the full context of this verse is the rebellion of Saul. And what has king Saul rebelled against?
* Look again in the last part of verse 23-
Text: 1 Samuel 15:23 (KJV 1900)
“Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord…”
I. King Saul rebelled against the World of God by only obeying the parts that were ok with him, and rejecting the rest of God’s Word.
* Now the story goes that God had spoken to the prophet Samuel and gave instructions to king Saul…
1 Samuel 15:1–3 (KJV 1900)
Samuel also said unto Saul, The Lord sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the Lord.
2 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
* Now Saul acted like he had obeyed the “Word of God,” but in reality, Saul did not do exactly what God had said.
* Now King Saul had not fully followed the “Word of God.” Saul only did the part that “suited himself,” or that he “felt like” obeying.
* How many Christians make the same mistake as King Saul this morning!- They only obey the parts of the Bible that suit them well, the parts they like, but the parts of the Bible that don’t suit them, well they leave off to obey those parts!
* Just as the judgment of God fell on King Saul in the context of the story of our text this morning, so will the judgment of God fall on the lives of those Christians who name the name of Jesus, but refuse to completely follow the Word of God!
II. King Saul rebelled against the Word of God by making excuses.
1 Samuel 15:20–22 (KJV 1900)
20 And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and have gone the way which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed,
to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal. 22 And Samuel said,
* Woe unto the Christians this morning who make excuses for not obeying the Word of God this morning!
* Just as it was with King Saul here in the story of our text, God will have none of your puny excuses!
* Why you have not obeyed the Words of God in this Bible!
* King Saul was judged by God, and rejected by God, and he suffered a great loss from what could have been- all because he did not strictly following the commands of the Word of God that had been given to him by the prophet.
* Oh Christian, who do you think you are, that on the outside have the appearance of serving God, but refuse to obey the Words that are written in this Bible by the prophets of God, and the Apostles of God?
* Do you really think that God would reject King Saul for not fully obeying the Word of God, and then let you off the hook for your partial obedience to the Bible, the Holy Word of God?
* Now this brings us to our summary I left you with as we closed last Sunday morning. Here is the insight we gained from last week’s sermon “The Sin of Rebellion part 1.”
1). The Bible is one continuous story about the sin of rebellion against the authority of God.
2). God hates the sin of Christians refusing to fully obey the Bible, God’s Word, as much as he hates the sins of witchcraft and Idolatry.
3). Partially obeying the commands of the Word of God, is the same as outright rebelling against all of the Words of God.
4). When we partially obey the Word of God, God will not accept our lame excuses for not fully obeying His Word, the Bible.
5). Like with king Saul, partially obeying God will result in angering God, causing the chastisement of God upon our life, and will result in great loss to us.
* Now in this second half of our sermon on our text verse…
Text: 1 Samuel 15:23 (KJV 1900)
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord…
* I would like to make some New Testament applications to the principles that we have already learned about how God feels about the sin of rebellion.
* Let’s discuss some ways in which, like Saul, that we do not fully obey the Word of the Lord that has been delivered to us by the Prophets and the Apostles.
* Now we have already established the basic idea that Satan, the Devil, is not satisfied with his own rebellion, but he is bent on causing every one of us believers to rebel against the Word of God.
* Now I want to reveal to you a fundamental, basic truth of the Word of God, the Bible, that the Devil wants you to rebel against this morning.
* If the Devil can cause you to rebel against this fundamental truth, he will have succeeded in causing you to rebel against the authority of God in your life, just like he did a third of the angles in heaven, and just like he did to Adam and Eve in the Garden.
* Turn with me now to I Corinthians chapter 11 and verse 2 and we will look at verses 2-16 together.
1 Corinthians 11:2–16 (KJV 1900)
2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. 5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. 6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. 12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. 13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? 14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. 16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
* Now in these verses, the apostle Paul is dealing with a particular open show of rebellion in the church at Corinth. – Men wearing long hair like a woman.
* In the Apostle Paul’s day there were a sect of people called Pathics, who are said to have imitated the dress and manners of women.
(The name pathic, comes from the word that describes (The passive, or one who acts as the female), male partner in anal intercourse)
* In the American culture, in the 60’s and early 70’s we witnessed the same social phenomena- we saw young men with rebellious attitudes that identified themselves with a certain youthful subculture marked for its style of music, sexual promiscuity, the drug culture, and a general defiance of authority, and rebellion against the surrounding culture.
* Men wearing of long hair has always been an outward sign of rebellion against God, because it is against nature.
* And this is the argument the apostle Paul makes as he deals with this rebellion that had crept into the churches.
* Look at verses 7- 9:
7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
* Look at verses 14-16:
14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
16 But if any man seem to be contentious, (rebellious) we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
* Now remind me, what is this sermon about this morning? Oh yea! The sin of rebellion.
* It is a form of rebellion against God for a man to wear his hair long, to be a cross-dresser, or a man who wears a woman’s clothes, one who dressed in drag, a man who has a sexual relationship with another man for that matter!
* it’s all related!- this is all a rebellion against the Word of God and the natural laws that God has set up for society.
* All these things are rebellion against the authority of God.
* This is why the homosexual activists of our day goes to such lengths to hate and persecute Christians, because we represent the authority of God as revealed in the Bible, and they hate the authority of God!
Romans 1:18–32 (KJV 1900)
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven- stop right there
(The wrath of God has already been revealed from heaven when God rained down fire and brimstone upon that people who we call sodomites, those who commit the sin of sodomy.)
against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead;
(By his magnificent, awesome, un-comprehensible, scientific laws of nature and physics, contained in the creation of the universe, God has revealed to man his mighty power and his supreme authority over mankind)
(If mankind were to acknowledge that God was our creator, then he would have to admit that God has authority over mankind, and this is precisely why satan has relentlessly attacked the Bible’s account of creation and replaced it with the absurd theory of evolution.)
so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God,
neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations,
and their foolish heart was darkened.
( Mankind had turned away from the light of God’s revelation of himself in nature, and in the Bible, and turned to the dark side, he has chosen to purposely rebel against logic and clear thinking, and think that they are wiser that God and God’s Word)
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
(This has got to be the best description of the phenomena of “political correctness.” Men and politicians in our day have become wo wise in their own eyes, they act like a bunch of idiots)
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie,
(The “politically correct” crowd of our day, have twisted the truth of God’s revelation of Himself in nature, to the point that you will be considered unrighteous, a hater, or a bigoted- racist if you do not agree with them.
They now preach that a good, or a fair, or righteous person has to agree that Homosexuality is ok with God.
They have turned the truth of God into a lie in their own minds, and in their own laws.)
and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly,
and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
* This all speaks to rebellion against God, but there is a basic truth that the apostle Paul states here that I want you to see. Look at verse 3:
3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
* This is the basic truth that the Devil desires to attack in the lives of Christians.
* The truth that the head, or authority, over every man is God. The authority over every woman is her husband, and as we learn in Ephesians 5, the authority over every child is his parents.
Ephesians 5:16–6:9 (KJV 1900)
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
(Notice now that the apostle Paul is going to tells us what the will of God is for all Christians. Notice that this will of God, includes God’s chain of command for the Christian home-)
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
(Now here it comes)
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
(The husband is commanded to submit himself to the Authority of God by loving his wife)
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart,
as unto Christ; 6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: 8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. 9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
* This my friend is the chain of command, given by the Word of God, the Bible, for every believer in Jesus Christ!
* And this is the one truth that the Devil is working overtime to cause Christians to rebel against!
* Now the devil wants the opposite of what God wants. The devil wants the Man to rebel his responsibility to obey God’s authority over him.
* The devil wants the wife to rebel against the authority of her husband over her because her husband is the representative of God’s authority over her.
* The devil want’s the child to rebel against the authority of the parents because the parents are the representatives of God’s authority over them.
* I said last Sunday that I was going to deal with ways in which Christians, like king Saul, fail to fully obey the Word of God.
* Well here is the #1 area in which we do not fully obey the Word of God!
God will hold you responsible, just like King Saul, if you only partially obey God’s chain of command for the family, and society as a whole.
* I am here to tell you this morning that if you do not fully obey your role as a husband, or as a wife, or as a child, or as an employee, you will, again like King Saul, suffer great loss as a Christian.
* I, like every other pastor, have families that come to me saying pastor! Pastor! You have got to help us! Our family is all tore up! Please do something to save our marriage pastor! Please do something to help us our kids are out of control!
* When talking about families we use a term today that reveals the truth to us. We say that families are “dysfunctional.”
* Well, I am here to tell you that the reason your family is dysfunctional, is because you have ignored or rebelled against the plan that God has set forth in His Word of how a family is to function!
* God has given us His will, and his chain of command concerning how a family is to function.
* Ignore it to your own peril.
* You want to know how to fix your dysfunctional family? Start right now obeying God’s word concerning the home and the family.
* Husband, your responsibility is to put yourself under the authority of God. That means you need to get right with God right now!
* Ephesians 5 says that just as Christ is the savior or the soul, the husband to the wife is the savior of the body.
Ephesians 5:23 (KJV 1900)
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
* Husbands, fathers, it is your ultimate and highest responsibility to work and provide for the things needed for the body for you wife and your children.
* There is no room in the plan of God for a man who will not work and provide properly for the needs of his family.
* Husbands you need to submit yourself to God as the one responsible for taking care of the physical needs of your family!
* Now, the idea that the husband is the “head” of the home is not that you are to be a boss that pushes and bully’s your wife and children around to please yourself, but the idea here is that you “lead” your family with the result that they please God.- The head tells the rest of the body where to go and what to do.
* As the head of your family, you are tasked by God with the responsibility to show your family how to put themselves under the authority of God, by putting your family under your authority! That’s your number one job!
1 Timothy 3:1–6 (KJV 1900)
This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
(This means this man is in complete control of his home, and he knows how to put his foot down, and keep his wife and kids in line!
You say “Well I’ll have you know that no husband of mine is going to put his foot down in my house!
Shut up and sit down you rebellious, controlling lout mouth! I will deal with you in a few minutes! Quit interrupting my sermon!)
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
* Husbands and fathers, you are the only “God authorized” representative of the authority of God to your wife and to your children.
* Men- our wives and our children will never lean the “fear of God” unless we show them what it looks like- with our own relationship to God’s authority over us.
* Men, your first responsibility as a man is to willingly, and whole heartedly, place yourself in submission to God’s Word!
* The first and foremost reason that your family is dysfunctional is because you are not leading your family to the authority of God over their own lives.
* When a Christian man fails to completely obey and submit to the Word of God, his family will rebel against him and the authority of God!
* Now let’s talk to the wives for a minute.
* Ladies, God has set forth the principle in the Word of God that your husband is to be the head of the home. Period.
Genesis 3:16–19 (KJV 1900)
16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children;
and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
1 Corinthians 11:3
3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. I Corinthians 11:7
7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
* Now if you have a problem with that then you have a problem with the Word of God.
* Ladies if you have a problem with that, then you are rebellious against the authority of the Word of God! Period!
* No excuses. I don’t want to heart it- just shup up and listen to the Word of God!
* Now wives and mothers, your husband is the representative of the Authority of God to you. The Word of God has commanded it that way.
* How you respond to your husband’s authority over you will determine how your children respond to God’s authority over them.
* The Holy Spirit has given you an example in I peter chapter 3:
1 Peter 3:1–7 (KJV 1900)
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. 3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
(I am only going to say this one time, so I want you to get this down now- There is no place in the plan of God for the family for a wife that desires to be the head of the home.
Men you may need to tell your wife to get out of your pants this morning!
* In our modern terms, the Bible teaches that the man is to wear the pants in the home.
According to the Word of God, Wives are not to be acting like the leader of the home, that is their husband’s role in the home.
* Telling your husband what to do, nagging your husband to constantly do your bidding or what you think he needs to be doing, in no way form or fashion is compatible with Peter’s description of what holy women of the faith are supposed to look like!
* You say, well I’m just a strong willed woman! Balderdash!
You are just a Christian woman who is rebelling against the authority, the revealed will of God, and the Word of God!
* The apostle Peter gives us a model to look at so we will know what a wife that pleases God looks like:
* First he tells us that Holy women of God, who trusted God, were in subjection to their own husbands, then he gives us the example of Abraham’s wife.)
5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
* Now let’s talk to the children for a minute.
* Children, did you know how God fells about children who rebel against the authority of their parents?
Proverbs 30:17 (KJV 1900)
17 The eye that mocketh at his father, And despiseth to obey his mother, The ravens of the valley shall pick it out, And the young eagles shall eat it.
* When you rebel and do not fully and whole heartedly obey your parents you are rebelling against someone who is God’s authorized agent to represent His authority over you.
* When you disobey your parents, you, like King Saul are rebelling against the Word of God.
* When you disobey your parent you, like King Saul will bring down the judgment of God upon your own head!
* When you rebel against the authority of your parents you are rebelling against the authority of God over you!
* Did you know that when you disobey or disrespect your parents they are authorized by God to use force?
Proverbs 22:15 (KJV 1900)
15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; But the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Proverbs 20:30 (KJV 1900)
30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: So do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
Proverbs 23:13–14 (KJV 1900)
13 Withhold not correction from the child: For if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. 14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, And shalt deliver his soul from hell.
* Parents God did not throw you in the hazardous job of correcting rebellious teenagers without weapons!
* My parents know how to use those weapons! Boy did they ever!
* Sometimes I think they were “weapons of mass destruction!”
* Do you want to know the fastest way to have a dysfunctional family this morning?
* Don’t spank your children!
Conclusion:
* Well, I am all out of time, so I guess I am going to have to make this a 3 part sermon.
* What do we take away from this sermon today? Let’s put last Sunday and today all together and sum them up this morning:
