Introduction
1. Everyone loves a good treasure hunt story!
a. 5 Pirates of the Caribbean movies and one more on the way!
i. Grossing $4.5 billion dollars
1. My favorite was 1st movie released in 2003 –The Curse of the Black Pearl
a. Everyone in the movie has a different treasure they were seeking
i. Jack Sparrow – Black Pearl
ii. Will Turner – Elizabeth Swann’s affection
iii. Elizabeth Swann – Her identity
iv. Hector Barbossa – Cursed Aztec gold
2. Jesus knew we loved treasure stories long before the box office
a. Jesus tells us a treasure story found in Matthew 6:19-24
i. Unlike the Curse of the Black Pearl, were there is numerous treasures people are searching for…Jesus mentions only two that you and I search for in this life!
3. This treasure story found in Matthew 6:19-24 is part of Sermon on the Mount

4. So the questions we will try to answer this morning have a lot to with why do we all love a good treasure story and my hope that, as we look at today’s text we will be able to answer the following questions:
a. What is it that I am supposed to be treasuring? (v.19-20)
b. How do I go about finding this treasure? (v.21-23)
c. What am I supposed to do once I find this treasure? (v.24)
5. But ultimately the question we should be trying to answer today is…
a. “What is it that I treasure?”

a. Define what “Storing Up” means and looks like today
b. Identify the two locations we are to store up
i. Earth
ii. Heaven
c. Define what it is we are storing up / treasuring
i. Money

a. What is Jesus’ concern about money?
i. Location of our heart!
2. Read Matthew 6:21
a. How do we go about finding the treasure we are all searching for?
i. Two things help us find our treasure – Heart & Eyes
ii. Heart (v.21)
1. V. 21 says look where our heart is, that is where the treasure is too
a. Created and designed to worship / to treasure
2. Define what it means to treasure
3. This is why our hearts are so important here!

i. The eyes is how we see into our heart
1. Application questions to ask in regards to what our eyes are consistently looking at / toward

a. What am I supposed to do once I find this treasure?
i. Serve it!
ii. Worship it!
iii. Allow it to impact your heart!

1. Jesus’ main point in this text is “Money should not be your God or what you treasure”
