THAT THEY MAY HAVE LIFE – John 10:10
Preaching Series October 2020
Intro: Life is precious. However, there is a kind of life that is more precious than the kind of life that is most commonly understood. There is a kind of life that is not captured by our senses. There is a kind of life that is discerned only through an increasing awareness of God. This kind of life is highly connected to character of Jesus and to God.
Today, let's seek to understand this kind of life that God can gift to people like you.
Jesus Is Calling Your Attention. (busyness, focus, truth encounter) “Truly, truly, I say to you, ..." People are busy. These people have their own kind of busyness. Thus, their focus is on what makes them busy or on their busyness. The fact that people find it hard to focus on God or the spiritual matters is because of their busyness. These people needs a truth encounter from God’s Word. Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, …" (John 5:24a). Here, Jesus is simply calling our attention. He want to declare truth to us. Oh, how I wish that people will set aside all kinds of busyness and encounter the truth of God.
There Is An Open Invitation. (The Word, hear, believe) "... whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me ..."God’s Word is God’s message to people. Hearing and believing is crucial to hearken or respond to the open invitation. If God’s Word makes sense, there is one good response – you will give your attention. In spite of all the voices and the voices all around, we can still respond to people and especially to God. Jesus said, “whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me …" It’s time to respond right to the open invitation of God. Surely, this is one of the wises decision a person can do.
Time For Change. (perspective, human state, passover) "... has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life." Given the desperation and the depression many people experience, we need a change in perspective! Why? Perspective is everything. Our human state of sin, worry, fear, desperation, or depression says so much that we need change. Change happens when we passover from death to life. Christ said that anyone who hear his word ad believes the Father who sent him "has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”. Believe me, we need this kind of change.
Conclusion:
You need to see life beyond what your current understanding can offer. Turn to Jesus and to His Words in the Bible so that you may pass over from death and into the kind of life God can gift to you.
