Seven Things God Hates
Text: (Proverbs 6:16-19)
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Introduction: Some people find it hard to believe that God hates.
1. Satan has deceived this world into believing that since God is love, therefore God does not hate.
1. Their reasoning is faulty. We love our children but we hate anything that would harm them. God loves his children, but he hates the sin that harms them.
2. God is love, but the other side of the coin is, that because He is love, He hates evil. 3. Hate follows love as the night follows day. (Matthew 6:24)
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.
4. The world is trying to tell us today, that I we hate anything we are evil. When we speak out against what the Bible says that God hates, then they say we are evil. (Isaiah 5:20-23)
20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! 22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: 23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!
(Romans 1:21-32)
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
5. The world would have you believe that if you speak out against what God calls sin, you a guilty of hate a crime.
6. If you say publicly that the Bible says abortion is murder, you are guilty of hate speech.
7. If you say publicly that the Bible says homosexuality is sin, and that the Bible says God says it is an abomination, then, you are guilty of a hate crime.
8. Liberal theology today says that God is a wimpy old man who weeps over the sins of man, but looks over mans sins and does nothing about it.
9. Liberal theology has somehow convinced this nation that we must be kind and merciful to the criminal.
10. Liberal theology today has corrupted our society, and caused us to not have the internal fortitude to follow through with a strong system of punishment for real crimes.
11. You kill a human baby in the womb, it’s called choice, you kill a dog it’s all over the TV.
12. God has no problem punishing the wicked.
13. God is not afraid of public opinion.
14. God is no coward.
15. God does not run from any appearance of offending men.
16. God says that by no means will He clear the guilty. I. God hates a proud look.
A. It’s number one on his list.
B. Pride is independence from God.
C. Pride was the sin that got Satan threw out of Heaven. (Isaiah 14:12)
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
D. Pride was the reason behind the very first sin. (Genesis 3:4-5)
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (I John 2:16)
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
C. A proud look is the result of thinking you are better than others. Pride finds its way into the church. (James 2:1-7)
1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. 2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; 3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: 4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? 5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? 6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? 7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
D. Pride is why men think they can earn their own way to heaven.
(Luke 18:9-14)
9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves thay they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
E. Pride is why Americans refuse to acknowledge the sovereignty of God in our country.
1. Removing prayer from schools and government.
2. Taking God out of the pledge and off of our money.
3. Taking the references to God out of the Constitution.
4. Gay pride- God will not tell us what to do!
II. God hates a lying tongue.
A. Liars will be cast into the lake fire. (Revelation 21:8) 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
B. God deal harshly with one who lied to the church. (Acts 5:1-11)
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. 7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. 9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. 11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
C. A lying tongue is evidence of an un-regenerated heart. (Colossians3:9)
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
III. God hates those hands that shed innocent blood.
A. Abortion is murder of the innocents. B. America is fascinated with murder. C. God hates murder, because life is precious. D. In America, when a murderer is caught, we treat his life a precious. E. God says the murder is to forfeit his own life. (Genesis 9:5-6)
5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. 6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
F. God will judge America for Abortion and refusing to enforce capitol punishment.
IV. God hates a heart that devises wicked imaginations.
A. We live in a generation that is saturated with wicked imaginations. Just think about what we consume on TV.
B. The computer is used constantly to view porn.
C. Whet we see on TV shows what is in the heart of man.
(Matthew 15:18)
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things which defile a man:
D. This is how it was in Noah’s day when judgment came.
(Genesis 6:5-11)
5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
E. This is how it will be in the last days when judgment comes again.
(Mathew 24:36-39)
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
V. God hates feet that are swift to run to mischief.
A. We live in a society that is permeated with those who swift to run to mischief. We call it gangs. (Proverbs 1:10-15)
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. 11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: 12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: 13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: 14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: 16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
B. You say, “oh but we don’t have gangs in our small town.” What about the meth labs all around us?
VI. God hates a false witness.
A. We teach our youth to lie for government benefits.
B. Our politicians are constantly making up lies about their opponents.
C. Or churches are filled with those who destroy each other with their tongues. (Galatians 5:14-16)
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
(James 3:5)
5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
VII. God hates those who sow discord among brethren.
A. Those that cause division in families.
B. Those that cause division in the church. (Romans 16:17-18) 17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
C. Churches should be able to work together. (Billy Sunday)
(I Corinthians 1:10-13)
10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
D. Those that cause division in our society and government. 1. Those that cause divisions for political gain, as in the recent shooting, falsely accusing, blaming conservatives for inciting violence.
2. Those who insist on dividing our nation over race for their own political gain.
Conclusion: We need to examine our own hearts to be sure that we are not guilty of the carnal attitudes.
