Trusting In God

Trusting In God
Psalm 11:1–7 NKJV
1 In the Lord I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”? 2 For look! The wicked bend their bow, They make ready their arrow on the string, That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart. 3 If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do? 4 The Lord is in His holy temple, The Lord’s throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. 5 The Lord tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates. 6 Upon the wicked He will rain coals; Fire and brimstone and a burning wind Shall be the portion of their cup. 7 For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.
Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith! In Jesus Name!

Trust

Trust means make a refuge, have confidence in or firm belief

In the context of verse 1 it literally means, David was saying he was making a refuge in God.
A refuge is a place of shelter and safety.
D.  The 7 most important words from this message are,

“In the LORD put I my trust:”.

In order to trust in God, we must understand His trustworthiness.
Even though it is hard for us to trust...trusting is actually naturally to us.
Some of us trust in jobs to always be there to provide the money.
Some of us trust the brakes in our cars more than we trust God.
Here me the issue is not whether you trust or not...
The important thing is

Where do we place that trust.

Psalm 20:7 NCV
7 Some trust in chariots, others in horses, but we trust the Lord our God.
Proverbs 21:31 NLT
31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.
Psalm 11:1 NLT
1 I trust in the Lord for protection. So why do you say to me, “Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety!
When people try to talk you out of trusting God, they are saying to you, go to something you can see touch, taste or smell - something more tangible.
Run to something you can physically see.
Run away from your troubles.
Take flight and run away.
Our attitude needs to be, in spite of this stuff - I’m going through - In spite of everyone around me giving me bad counsel,
I will still trust in God.
Everyone around is telling us to trust in anything and everything But God!
I will still trust in God.
They tell us to trust in drugs and alcohol. Smoke this or drink this! At the end of the day - the problem is still there!
I will still trust in God.
They tell us to trust the system of politics. People in leadership will do the right thing and yet still we find ourselves - misused, abused, look down on, betrayed by our own government!
I will still trust in God.
They tell us to trust social media influence-rs, trust in the experts on tv and radio!but never once do they tell us to trust in God.

Ignore the counsel of the world.

Hear the counsel of the scripture...

Trust in God.

There are people who will take shots at you for trusting in God.
Psalm 11:2 GW
2 Wicked people bend their bows. They set their arrows against the strings to shoot in the dark at people whose motives are decent.
The Bible calls those who would try to destroy your character, your ethics, your trust in God...wicked.
It seems there will always be someone who is wicked who wants to shoot at the upright in heart.
People who stand for what is right will come under attack from those who don’t live right because those who don’t live right - feel guilty.
Also notice the way the scripture words the methods of the wicked.  It says they will shoot in the dark or in private.
There are undermining wicked people who will try to assassinate your character , because you are trusting in God.
IV.  Now let us look at God’s trustworthiness.
Psalm 11:4 NLT
4 But the Lord is in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth.
The bible reminds us that The Lord is in His holy temple - that means He is right where He needs to be.
See, God is not bound by time or space.  He is omnipresent.
You can’t place Him in a box.
To further explain the vast presence of God, the Bible says, the Lord’s throne is in             heaven.”
This literally means the universe.
Acts 7:49–50 NKJV
49 Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me? says the Lord, Or what is the place of My rest? 50 Has My hand not made all these things?’
How can we begin to comprehend the infinite vast presence of God?
How can we grasp the reality of His immensity?
Listen to what the Lord said to Job:
Job 40:6–14 NCV
6 Then the Lord spoke to Job from the storm: 7 “Be strong, like a man! I will ask you questions, and you must answer me. 8 Would you say that I am unfair? Would you blame me to make yourself look right? 9 Are you as strong as God? Can your voice thunder like his? 10 If so, then decorate yourself with glory and beauty; dress in honor and greatness as if they were clothing. 11 Let your great anger punish; look at the proud and bring them down. 12 Look at the proud and make them humble. Crush the wicked wherever they are. 13 Bury them all in the dirt together; cover their faces in the grave. 14 If you can do that, then I myself will praise you, because you are strong enough to save yourself.
These scriptures don’t even deal with God’s immeasurable power and infinite might.

He is trustworthy, because He is the only God.

Psalm 93:1–4 NLT
1 The Lord is king! He is robed in majesty. Indeed, the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. 2 Your throne, O Lord, has stood from time immemorial. You yourself are from the everlasting past. 3 The floods have risen up, O Lord. The floods have roared like thunder; the floods have lifted their pounding waves. 4 But mightier than the violent raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore— the Lord above is mightier than these!
Isaiah 45:12 NKJV
12 I have made the earth, And created man on it. I—My hands—stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded.
Look around you - Nature alone teaches us God is trustworthy.
Stop for a minute - look up and see - The very existence of the stars in the sky prove God can be trusted!
Think about the complexity of our physical existence and know...
God can be Trusted
Think about this - God has the sun in it’s place warming our planet!
God can be Trusted
If you ever find yourself asking, “Can I trust God?”...the answer is a resounding YES!!
It does not matter what we face, we can trust God.
Habakkuk 3:17–18 NLT
17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
Yet, I will trust Him.
Yet, He is my refuge.
Yet, He is my safe place.
Yet, He is worthy to be praised.
