Me:

Grumbling and complaining undermine the grace of God and poison the heart.

The movie Grumpy Old Men - I wanted at a clip but they where all way to inappropriate for a sermon
Another favorite is the two old codgers from the muppet show. My coworker at Vienna says that us.
We love to laugh at this kind of grumpiness.
Hollywood has taken their grumpy attitudes and made it funny.
But in reality, no one likes to spend time with a complainer – a grumbler - a grumpy old man.
Picture of myself
Grumbling and complaining undermine the grace of God and poison the heart.
We:

The bad side of a bad attitude

Studies have shown that few things are more detrimental to your health than a bad attitude.
Quote: Because our attitudes begin with our mindset, if our perspective is stuck in the muck of negativity, our body, behaviors, mental, emotional, and even physical health will begin to take on this posture – a posture of negativity.
Negative Nancy
Listen to way Websters defines ingratitude "the failure or refusal to acknowledge receipt of something good from another; the forgetfulness of or poor return of kindness."
Ingratitude is the choice not to recognize good or kindness in our life.
God:

The bible is full of stories of ingratitude

The story of Cain and Able is a great example
At the heart of Cains sin was ingratitude
We could also point to David
Think all that David had
It was ingratitude that caused that sin

Grumbling

God is had brought them out of Egypt
After 45 days of travel the resources are running low
As their bellies began to rumble, their mouths began to grumble.
“Hangry”
Exodus 16:2 NIV
2 In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron.
Da gum you Moses we had it made in Egypt being slaves for Pharoah
So Let’s understand their situation - Spiritual babies
God in his grace provides for them
But Moses preaches one of his two minute messages
It’s not me that your are grumbling against
It’s the Lord
This is a pattern with Israel
It’s a pattern with us - We as ministers receive criticism that is really directed toward God.
Grumbling and complaining undermine the grace of God and poison the heart.

The Grumbling Continued

This time it was the Lord had enough
Have you ever watched a child complain to a parent while the parent completely ignored them.
You think how do not notice that
Then when they do notice the kids gets a “WHAT DO YOU WANT?”
Now picture Isreal
Numbers 11:1 NKJV
1 Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord; for the Lord heard it, and His anger was aroused. So the fire of the Lord burned among them, and consumed some in the outskirts of the camp.
Ouch!!
Why would God act this way?
We get the parent loosing patients - I mean I wanna growl at the kid.
Two reasons - Write this down

Grumbling is the complete opposite of gratitude.

To grumble and complain is to reject the grace of God
Quote: Choosing to be ungrateful for their daily drop-from-the-sky and raise-from-the-ground meals and desire to go back to slavery in Egypt to be fed there instead was to reject God's grace and His offer of salvation. Because Israel's salvation was dependent upon them trusting in Him.
Philippians 2:14 NLT
14 Do everything without complaining and arguing,
Why would Paul write that
Grumbling and complaining undermine the grace of God and poison the heart.

Grumbling rejects gratitude and asks why?

We say to ourselves
Why me or why not me?
This is not enough
This is not what I wanted.
This is not how things are supposed to be.
There has got to be something better than what I have.
Grumbling and complaining undermine the grace of God and poison the heart.
You:

Ask Yourself

Closely examine your thoughts, attitudes, and words.
WHERE DO I GRUMBLE?
Am I doing on social media
To my friends - does it turn into gossip
We
Proverbs 4:23 NLT
23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
You thought this was sexual sin? - That’s a symptom
Gratitude is the foundation
Ingratitude is the poison
It determines the course of your life
