Notice the description just below where it says Psalm 18:

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said,

This gives us the setting and the context of this psalm or song
David is the writer
Writing this, not from a kingly position, but from the position of a servant of the LORD
To the LORD - David here uses God’s name Yahweh which is the same name God used when He spoke with Moses from the burning bush - I AM THAT I AM
David recognised that the LORD, Yahweh, was the same LORD that delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians
The LORD did not change
When?
David’s father-in-law, Saul, the former king of Israel, has chased David’s life. Saul hunted David all over the hills and mountains of Israel. He set trap after trap trying to catch David, but the LORD kept delivering David from Saul’s hand
Hand is unique word - It actually means a hand like a paw - Bear
The LORD had protected David from Saul. Those who allied with Saul to help hunt David were now gone or silenced. David’s enemies were now under his footstool and God had given complete deliverance from Saul.
It was the moment that everything was settled, is when David under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote this personal and prophetic psalm.
This Psalm is prophesies about Christ and yet contains the heart of David to His LORD.
The heart of the Psalm:
Psalm 18:1 KJV 1900
I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.
Love - to yearn over and carries the thought of fondling
Hug
David yearns to hug the LORD and embrace his Deliverer
Our last meeting before heading to the UK - I just wanted to hug my wife
This Psalm as we look at the foretelling of Christ can be broken into 3 segments:
The Rejected Prophet - Vs. 1-19
The Royal Priest - Vs. 20-31
The Returning Potentate - Vs. 32-50
Today we going to look at a thought about the future kingdom of Jesus Christ here on earth
At any moment:
Rapture
7 years of tribulation
Battle of Armageddon
Millennial rule and reign of Christ
As David sings he gives us some things in which we are to be thankful for and for that which will be thankful for:

The LORD Liveth

Psalm 18:46a KJV 1900
The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; And let the God of my salvation be exalted.
This is time to come
A battle has been fought with the likes the world has never seen
The blood in the valley will be up to a horses bridle
Many lives are lost
As the movement from the enemy of God ceases, the dust settles, and silence from an ended battle fills the air
Here comes the LORD
The Victor
The anti-christ and all his evil forces waged their mightiest attacks and the LORD has won!
No weapon could prosper against the LORD
No amount of training could prepare them for the great I AM
The strongest man fell
The greatest warrior ceased
No one could stand before the LORD
This gives us great confidence! This gives us hope!
Malachi 3:6a KJV 1900
For I am the Lord, I change not; Therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
So many enemies around a child of God today, but one day we can be assured that every enemy will not endure. All will fall before the LORD.
The LORD liveth
No problem is too big for the LORD
No difficulty is too much for the LORD
No struggle is too grand for the LORD
The LORD liveth!

Blessed be my Rock

Psalm 18:46b KJV 1900
The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; And let the God of my salvation be exalted.
David found a Rock that anchored His heart, soul, and mind
This Rock could not be moved.
The Rock would give him protection, strength, and stability
1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV 1900
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Why did Paul know that we can unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord?
The Rock that anchored Paul’s heart, soul, and mind also anchored David’s
He knew David trusted in the Rock, and he knew we could too
Matthew 16:18 KJV 1900
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
He is the Rock that our labour can be anchored to in the LORD

Let the God of my salvation be exalted

Psalm 18:46c KJV 1900
The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; And let the God of my salvation be exalted.
David needed a Saviour
He did not look to a false god or some sort of religiosity (set of works to take him to Heaven)
He looked to God for salvation
He exalted the Saviour
Exalted - means to raise up
Speak well of the LORD
Spoke well of his salvation
Speech reflected where his heart was tied to

Praises God’s justice

Psalm 18:47–48 KJV 1900
It is God that avengeth me, And subdueth the people under me. He delivereth me from mine enemies: Yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: Thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
God makes every wrong right
Justice
Judgement
We want justice, but don’t want the judgment
One day God will make every wrong right
The violent man - the man of violence
John 8:44 KJV 1900
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Satan will be bound and thrown into Hell for 1,000 years before being cast into the Lake of Fire for eternity
The LORD will defeat Satan and make every wrong right through perfect justice!

The reason to give thanks

Psalm 18:49–50 KJV 1900
Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, And sing praises unto thy name. Great deliverance giveth he to his king; And sheweth mercy to his anointed, To David, and to his seed for evermore.
Because of Christ is:
Prophet
Priest
King
Because of Who He is, David boldly declares; I will give thanks unto the LORD
Remember David is singing this as a servant of the LORD
This verse seems to fit during the millennial reign of Christ, as he states that he’ll give thanks among the heathen
Heathen is a word for a foreign people that are not of one’s own people
Even during the reign of Christ, people will still reject Jesus as Saviour
But David says that they will know Jesus is his Saviour as he gives thanks unto the LORD!
The LORD has delivered me!
He has been merciful to me!
My Son, the Son of God, is King forever, and I get to serve Him
Can you picture David singing and giving praise to His LORD?!
I can join in David’s choir - I’ll have a new voice!
Until we meet Jesus in the sky then, we have reason to give thanks.
Let’s not wait until the Jesus is King on earth for us to give thanks among those that do not believe in Him.
Let’s encourage others to enter a relationship with God through faith in Jesus!
In the late 1800’s George Mueller operated an orphanage that at one time had 1,000 orphans. One morning there was no food to eat, but he called all the children and staff together and prayed thanking God for the provision of food, even though no food was on the table. A few moments later a baker knocked on the door. He told Mr. Muller that God had led him to bake bread the night before and give it to the orphanage. Before the bread was given to the children, a milkman knocked on the door. He said that his milk truck had broken down and he wanted to give the milk to the orphanage.
George Muller gave thanks, even when it took faith to do so.
