While Waiting

What David does in the times of waiting captured God’s heart.

While David was waiting for the promises of God to come true, he was being shaped as the man after God’s heart.

While waiting on God, you can be shaped into the identity God has called you.

What did David do while waiting for what God said to come true?

He learned to shepherd.

Worshiped and thanked God.

Mastered his instrument.

Mastered his weapon.

Helped others.

It is likely David was a child from an affair of some sort. When Samuel asked if this was all the sons of Jesse, he said yes. At minimum David was not considered important enough to be a real son of Jesse.

David learned to protect sheep, in the middle of being some sort of outcast.

He learned to include and take care of what was his in the middle of that not happening to him.

He learned to worship alone. His audience was sheep not people he could get attention from.

He learned to master using the slingshot to protect was his to care for.

He learned to include God in fighting an enemy.

He learned to let God strengthen him in using his weapon to defeat what should be impossible.

When david was hiding from Saul for his life in the caves, many men came to him for help.

He was a safe place for others when he had no safe place of his own.

David learned to take refuge in God, when no relationship or place on earth was a real refuge for him.

When David was waiting for God, he prepared for the future.

Even when he was told he would not build a house for the Lord, he saved so his son could do so.

1 Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.

Comfort is the enemy while waiting on God.
