SINGING GOD'S PRAISES
PSALM 46: 1
Tonight, we will start a study in several of the Psalms. We know that the Book of Psalms is a compilation of songs sung by the Jewish people. The Psalms are considered under the heading of "Wisdom" or "Poetry" when we look at the Old Testament as a whole. Many, though not all, of the Psalms were written by David the king.
The Heading.
-To the ________ musician. David makes it clear that this song is to be seen, heard, played, and conducted by the chief musician.
-The sons of Korah. These men were a part of the singers assigned to sing praises to God in the Tabernacle.
-Upon Alamoth. Some Biblical scholars believe it means it is to be sung by young ladies, perhaps stressing a soprano type of voice. Other scholars believe that an Alamoth was a type of instrument, called a psaltery, and that it had a different tone or texture or sound to it, when played.
