SINGING GOD'S PRAISES PSALM 46: 1 Tonight, we will start a study in several of the Psalms. We know that the Book of Psalms is a compilation of songs sung by the Jewish people. The Psalms are considered under the heading of "Wisdom" or "Poetry" when we look at the Old Testament as a whole. Many, though not all, of the Psalms were written by David the king. The Heading. -To the ________ musician. David makes it clear that this song is to be seen, heard, played, and conducted by the chief musician. -The sons of Korah. These men were a part of the singers assigned to sing praises to God in the Tabernacle. -Upon Alamoth. Some Biblical scholars believe it means it is to be sung by young ladies, perhaps stressing a soprano type of voice. Other scholars believe that an Alamoth was a type of instrument, called a psaltery, and that it had a different tone or texture or sound to it, when played. Verse 1. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. David makes it plain and clear who he is speaking about: God. Our word God is actually Elohim in the Hebrew, defined as the _____________ God. Our. That's the Israelites, God's chosen people in the Old Testament. The God described in this verse is the ______ God we serve today, and He is our God as well. Refuge. Translated from a Hebrew word that means "____________". Strength. Exactly that. Strength. Power Might. God's strength and power and might work when we __________. Very present. Our God is a very present God, ________ by us to know everything we are facing, and how to act in our best interests, at a ___________ notice. Help. We all need that, don't we? Help. And it has its plain meaning in the Hebrew and in the English. But help can take on many ____________ forms, and times, and methods. Trouble. Distress, trials, anguish, affliction, adversity, tribulation. Whatever kind we may face, it is covered by this word.
