Recap:
The Power Source:
Our ability to walk out our Christian faith abides only through the regenerative and renewing works of the Holy Spirit.
Fundamentally, the essence of the Christian life is what God does in and through you, not what you do for God. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is being empowered and directed by Him.
We are participating in the interior works of the Holy Spirit through our exterior lives. This Obedient Faithfulness that we are called to (Romans 6:11-14; Ephesians 4:17-24) = Worship/Adoration
Six Promises
Six Promises
Up to this point, we have discussed who God is, how can we know God, and how we are sustained by God to live for God.
We will now conclude this chapter on becoming spiritually fit by looking at some important promises of God.
You might recall a few weeks ago, I read a quote to you on how one grows and matures in their faith, “Your faith instinctively strengthens in direct proportion to the expansion of the object of your faith. You expand your understanding of the object of your faith and faith itself will obediently follow. The object of your faith… is Jesus Christ and all of His promises.”
Prove it:
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Psalm 119:9-16
Head: (Read verses and have sailors identify the promises)
Promise 1: Christ has come into your life.
Colossians 1:25-27
What does it mean to have Christ in you?
Your life is now directed by the righteousness, holiness, and power of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit.
Promise 2: Since you have the Eternal Son, you have eternal life.
John 5:24
What happens when you believe in Jesus?
You have eternal life. You pass from death into life and you have an inheritance in heaven.
Promise 3: You are reborn as a new creation.
2 Corinthians 5:17
What does it mean to be a new creature?
You are entirely severed from your old ways (Romans 6:6).
Promise 4: All your sins have been and will be forgiven.
Isaiah 43:25
Ephesians 1:7-8a
How are our sins forgiven?
Through the perfect sacrifice of Christ. It cancelled out all of your past, present, and future sins, thus why Jesus is the only Way, Truth, and Life; there is no other way to God except through the Cross of Christ.
Promise 5: You have a new relationship with God.
Romans 8:14-16
John 15:15
Ephesians 2:1-6
What is the significance of being a child and friend of God?
We now have an intimate relationship with God that is sustained by God Himself. He calls us His children and identifies Himself as our Papa. He does not look to us as slaves, but as friends locked into His inheritance.
Promise 6: You have assurance that you will never be separated from God again.
Romans 8:38-39
What if you really blow it? Will God give up on you?
John 10:27-29

Which of these promises means the most to you? Why?
What should we do with these promises?

Hands:
Walk with God: How do these promises help your walk with God?
Keep Christ first: How do these promises help you to keep Christ first?
Keep sin out of your life: How do these promises help you keep sin out of your life?
This is an especially important opportunity to think on these promises, as these promises are tangible manifestations of this important aspect of God’s love, חסד, the love God displays through the promises He keeps.
The psalmist says in Psalm 63:3 that the חסד of God is better than life, therefore let us continue to seek to know every promise God has for us that we may be nurtured into greater faithful obedience unto God, thereby better able to worship and glorify Him as He purposed us to.
