Mk 5:25-34 Getting a Breakthrough

Messages from the miracles – Healing the women with issue blood!

Throughout history people have made “BT” discoveries / learned some things…brought a breakthrough! Science: Thomas Edison – filament in a tube coupled with electricity could give us light! Medicine: 1928 Alexander Fleming – discovered penicillin, an antibiotic derived from mold could cure and save lives. – Vaccine for Covid-19??? / Invention of the printing press 1440 – enabling distribution of knowledge. Technology today, internet – greatest communication shift in 500 years. = Discoveries bring BT. TEXT A women who experienced a breakthrough…learn from her, discovery some things so that we can get a breakthrough.

--- Evident in Jesus teaching – key to victory, getting things from God, getting a BT is faith.

I. Determined Faith

A. One man was asked the secret to success – “Get up when you fall down”

1. Contrary to popular opinion – success is not linked to talents, abilities, or education as much as it is to determination and perseverance.

2. Quote “Many people fail in life because they believe in the adage: If you don’t succeed, try something else. But success eludes those who follow such advice. Virtually everyone has had dreams at one time or another, especially in youth. The dreams that have come true did so because people stuck to their ambitions. They refused to be discouraged. They never let disappointment get the upper hand. Challenges only spurred them on to greater effort.”

How Many – Hit A Tuff Spot = shift gears, shift churches, shift occupations, - shift not

because it’s right, or even God, but because it’s the easiest and most convenient thing to do.

PT. Dreams come true when you stick to your ambitions.

B. Text Women got a breakthrough – failed # of times, but got up…

1. Vs 25 Now a certain woman (sure, convinced, positive, confident) had a Flow of blood for 12 years

a. (female issue) Seemingly incurable condition causing her to bleed constantly.

b. Would have made her ritually unclean and excluded her from most social contact.

--- WE are inconvenienced, irritated at the consequences of COVID-19 – mask, and social distancing – She’s has a shameful disease that has rendered her socially unclean… thus robbing her of the main vocation for a woman in that day – wifehood and motherhood.

2. Vs 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse.

a. Early on – perhaps helped by fact she was a woman of independent means - $$$

– Being Diagnosed = she fought…looked for solution – physicians

--- Regular doctors, and or those who "practiced heathen arts of magic,” – Curandero – magical healers, Witchdoctors???

b. After 12 years of looking, going to one physician after another, the only thing she was RELIEVED OF was her $$$.

3. I’m IMPRESSED by this woman – after 12 years she hasn’t given up hope!!!

a. Could have been swallowed up by despair, could have easily had a GRUDGE against life -- - no fault of my own, dealt a bad hand, I’ve had the cards stacked against me. I no longer believe that God is good! /

b. Easily called herself a VICTIM / - when external events conspire against you / People like to be victims…Article: Millennials think their risk of Covid-19 is more than it is. Think threat, risk of Covid-19 greater than it is – (FEAR) FLATEN CURVE, NO FLATEN FEAR – People become Paralyzed rooted in COMFORT…like don’t have to work, or fight, $600 Unemployment checks. / No fight, or drive / WOMEN --- didn’t take role of Victim…

C. After 12 years – She is Still Determined, still Hopeful, still has faith – CAN BE SEEN

1. Vs 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touch His garment.

a. Heard Jesus – hands had cured where others could not!

b. Heard – power of God is in him – maybe He can help!

2. When she heard….She wasn’t just CURIOUS, but DETERMINED

a. Lots of people hear about Jesus – curious, inquiring, questioning

--- Zambia Crusades – outer edges, checking us out!

--- Get a touch from God have to be more than curious

b. Blind Bart – heard that Jesus was passing by – cried out, cried out more – pressed in

despite resistance! DETERMINED.

c. Concerts of Old - try to get to front – not easy – determined….

3. Jesus surrounded by crowd / SHE presses in – touches hem of garment – Jesus Who touched me? Peter “Master the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, “Who touched me”.

a. Little women determined, pressed in – Determined faith

4. Hal Sherbeck – winning coach, high school, University of Montana, Fullerton Community College

Press on, nothing in the world, can take the place of persistence

Talent will not; Nothing is more common, than unsuccessful men, with talent.

Education will not; The word is full of Educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination are alone important.

*** Break through??? Not easy formula for success – faith – stays committed, persistent, determined.

II. Internal Faith

A. There is an internal dimension to breakthroughs

1. Internal = what’s inside, at the core, the heart!

2. People can look good outside…but Q. What’s in the inside? / How know???

3. Mt 12 For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

a. Words we speak a good indicator of the heart!

b. What’s in the well will come up in the bucket

c. Q. Ever say something you wish you didn’t???

--- Freudian slip = unconscious slip of the tongue

--- Foot in mouth = Words coming out didn’t think through / BRIAN REGAN

1. See woman think PG, Hey…when’s that….Baby due?? – what baby? At the zoo, panda. 2. Ever guess a gender wrong? – excuse me Sir, MAM…see you later, human, take care person, bye individual.

d. Words once spoken - Can’t get back – toothpaste put back in tube!

4. All agree – WORDS ARE POWERFUL – good or bad

a. Prov death and life are in the power of the tongue

b. Pst. Artie Aragon – how crucial what you speak at certain times / Power in words…

--- Children foolishly rebuked for stupidity by a parent or teacher…and their life takes on an inferiority complex.

--- Abusive Words…can point a child down the path of discouragement and wrong doing.

--- Complaining words – COVID-19 / --- grumbling, moaning, complaining – unhealthy /Things open, now shut, can and cant. (mask, distancing, restrictions) 1 Cor 10 “don’t want you to be ignorant – 10:10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.” Wilderness, Circumstances didn’t like.

a. Grippers don’t make with God, destroy their future. / COVID – complaining not help!

--- God’s on the throne, answer for complaining “shut your mouth”.

Words of Life…uplift, encourage, put confidence in another / PR “words fitly spoken are like apples of gold in pictures of silver” --- Can grip us, right us, shake us – direct us….

d. James 2: tongue is little member (bit horse mouth, - turn whole body / Rutter on ship – turns wherever pilot desires --- Destiny, determined by your mouth! / POWERFUL, INFLUENTAL

5. The beginning of any miracle/breakthrough often begins with the words we speak!

B. Text – Women Talking to herself / VS 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” / MT 9:21 For she said TO HERSELF, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.”

1. Words spoken to us are influential, words we speak to others instrumental, but WHAT ABOUT the WORDS WE SPEAK TO OURSELVES??? / How do you talk to yourself????

a. Mentally unstable? / No…we all do this in some measure – out loud or internally

b. Thinking out loud – ME

c. What you say to yourself matters!

2. Simon Pharisee / Lk 7:39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, (sinner women breaking alabaster box) he spoke to himself, saying, "This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner." 40 And Jesus answered and said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you."

a. Wouldn’t it be interesting IF WE could listen in on people’s thoughts, conversations they have with themselves? – Jesus Can /

3. LK 12:17 RM – Bumper Crop, Blessed / What we see ---Pillar in Church, good neighbor, successful, upright? HOW LITTLE we really know about him at all – till OVERHEAR CONVERSATION WITH HIMSELF. --- Listen to him talk to his Pastor, Listen to him talk to Wife – we still might not know what kind of man he is…but when HE TALKS TO HIMSELF…it’s revealed.

Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: "The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?' 18 So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry." ' 20 But God said to him, 'Fool!

C. What you say to YOURSELF MATTERS

1. Q. When you wake up and begin a new day, where do your thoughts take you?

Are they positive? Or do they tend to be more negative?

If you find yourself with more negative thoughts, embrace this spiritual truth:

our lives move in the direction of our strongest thoughts

2. Some people start their day with SELF DECLARATON

Jesus is first in my life. I exist to serve and glorify Him.

I love my wife and will lay down my life to serve her.

I love people and believe the best about others.

I am disciplined. Christ in me is stronger than the wrong desires in me.

I am anointed, empowered, equipped and called to reach people far from God.

The world will be different and better because I served Jesus today.

The beginning of any miracle/breakthrough often begins with the words we speak!

BT – Discover…Faith…

D. FAITH – something you believe, do, say --- what she did, CONNECTED TO WHAT SHE SAID

1. Could of said to herself / What’s the deal / not fair / Victim mode – cast blame!

2. What did she say to HERSELF??? – “I’m sick, but not dead…and as long as I’m alive there is hope”

**** As long as your alive…and Jesus is Lord – there is hope!!!

Women: If I can just touch the hem of his garment I will be made whole….does and is healed,

not because garment but her faith…Your faith has made you well.

Q. What is your Situation???? No Job, No Spouse, No Friends, NEED healing --- things going to change…begin with words you speak….and long before they come out of your mouth…they SPEAK TO YOU.

Challenge you put your Faith in God for whatever your facing….don’t give up,

Text – Women wouldn’t concede defeat --- victory began by words she spoke to herself!!!!

Speak to yourself – going to get a job, going to get a mate, going to get someone saved, God is going to bless my life, it’s going to be OK….God’s on the throne, he’s in control.

Now a certain woman (sure, convinced, positive, confident) – faith, determined, words speak
