“Proof of Revival”

Proof.
Evidence establishing a fact or the truth of a statement.
Setting out from Hamburg, Germany, one day to give a concert in London, violinist Fritz Kreisler had an hour before his boat sailed. He wandered into a music shop, where theproprietor asked if he could look at the violin Kreisler was carrying. He then vanished and returned with two policemen, one of whom told the violinist, "You are under arrest."
"What for?" asked Kreisler.
"You have Fritz Kreisler's violin."
"I am Fritz Kreisler."
"You can't pull that on us. Come along to the station."
As Kreisler's boat was sailing soon, there was no time for prolonged explanations. Kreisler asked for his violin and played a piece he was well known for. "Now are you satisfied?" he asked. They were!
Proof with his actions.
Many people pray for revival and a true encounter with Jesus, but proof is seen in actions.
Exodus 33:18-23.
Exodus 34:5-8,28-35
Recap from last week:
Heavy message.
The Message From God
His Promise
His Presence
The Sin of the People
By Their Inactivity
By Their Focus
By Their Choices
Choices we make have a lot to do with our misunderstanding of God’s gifts and grace toward us.
The world twisted God’s standard on life, love, and liberty.
Christians are ignorant.
The Repentance of the People
Repentance is a chnage of mind
Repentance is a change of action
Repentance includes Godly Sorrow
Worshipping the True Savior
The Value of God’s Presence
So Moses prayed and told the Lord that he didn’t want to go anywhere without the Lord.

1. The Request of the Servant

Exodus 33:18 KJV 1900
And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
The timing of this request:

a. The Position of Moses

“Beseech...” - this is a prayer that Moses was pleading with God! Begging God to do something.
God is most concerned with His Name and His glory than anything else.
Isaiah 43:7 KJV 1900
Even every one that is called by my name: For I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
Moses got to be in a position where he realized why and for whom he was created!

b. The Petition of Moses

“I want to see You, God.”
Moses had been pretty close to God already… look in:
Exodus 24:10–11 KJV 1900
And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.
Exodus 24:15–18 KJV 1900
And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount. And the glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel. And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
I’m more interested in knowing You than anything else.
I’m more interested in Your wonder and glory than my own!
Glory here speaks of God’s reputation, riches, and who He is!
Moses could have asked for better circumstances.

2. The Response of the Sovereign

Moses had a bold request: “I want to see your glory.”

a. What Moses Saw

Exodus 33:19 KJV 1900
And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
Goodness
I will proclaim My Name.
That’s pretty scary.
What does God have to say about Himself?
God’s Glory
Exodus 34:5–7 KJV 1900
And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.
I Am -
The Lord God
Merciful and gracious
Longsuffering and abudant in goodness and truth!
I Forgive
iniquity - speaks of perversion and corrupt hearts
Transgression - sin against each other… knowingly doing something wrong
sin - condition of guilt.
Not just for you… but for thousands more!
That promise Moses heard was true for him, for his grandkids.
For you and for your grandkids.

b. How Moses Saw

Moses, you can’t see My face.
verse 21 - you will stand on a rock.
verse 22- you will stand behind a rock.
If you want to see God’s glory, you’ve got to stand on this rock.
The bible says that Jesus is that Rock!
Jesus told Peter that on this rock, “his confession” would Jesus build his church.
We stand on the rock when we confess Jesus as our savior.
This becomes real when we trust Jesus as Lord!
When Moses saw and heard all this, verse 8, he fell down and worshipped!

3. The Recognition of the Society

Exodus 34:29–35 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him. And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them. And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him in mount Sinai. And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face. But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
Sometimes we are met with a temptation to try and post about our walk with Jesus.

a. The Shining

Moses’ face would shine when he came away from meeting with God.
This is a miracle.
The word “Shone” means to “emit light rays, i.e., a shining appearance due to glow of a face that supernaturally beams light”
When you have spent time with God, it is evident.
In the age when “if you didn’t post about it, it didn’t happen.” this is one of those passages that should remind you that when you’re in the Word with God, you will become different.

When the child of God looks into the Word of God and sees the Son of God, they are transformed by the Spirit of God into the image of God.

Stop saying you love Jesus but you treat people like dirt.
Stop posting this and start spending time here.
Saying you love Jesus while you like inappropriate tweets on twitter is not different than the israelites who sang about a ocean splitting God, but danced around a calf.
When you START spend time in the Word, to see the Son, and are transformed by the Spirit, you will stop treating people badly. liking inappropriate tweets. Using people. Being prideful.
It wasn’t a location Moses was in.
It wasn’t a service Moses was in.
Moses’ face did not shine because of a location, service, youth group, or conference.
Moses’ face shone because of the Rock of Ages, Glory of God, and Presence of the Holy Creator!
2 Corinthians 3:13–18 KJV 1900
And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

b. The Symbolism

The Law fades
When Moses wasn’t with God, his face would begin to dim.
The Veil on their Hearts
The Christian
Matthew 5:13–16 KJV 1900
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
2 Corinthians 3:17–18 KJV 1900
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

When you have spent time with God, people can tell.. you don’t have to try and convince them.
