faithful is full of faith
to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
Spiritual Faith
there are three manifestations of faith in our life
the faith to accept Jesus
the faith to trust Jesus in our walk with him
the faith to do the miraculous
Faith to Accept Jesus
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
we cannot come to Jesus and accept his grace by our own volition
all we could do is dig ourselves deeper into our sin, our desperation
even our human endeavours to do church was useless - mere noises in the dark
Paul states that we have gained access into the grace in which we now stand
the grace of Jesus Christ has been given to us
only through the work of Jesus, only on his terms
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
this initial connection to Jesus is a gift of faith but it is your gift
it is for your benefit to the glory of God
we have no boast, we have no part to play except accepting that gift
such a wondrous gift - life giving, encouraging past the point of death
this is the first type of faith in our life - it is a once off sufficient for all of eternity
it is a life giving, life empowering moment
I can still remember the moment I decided to follow Jesus with all my spirit, my mind, my soul
yet there is a second faith by which we walk
2. Faith for our Walk
We sent Timothy, who is our brother and co-worker in God’s service in spreading the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith,
this faith has the same source - Jesus Christ yet it has a quite different emphasis
we have a great need to be strengthened and encouraged in faith
we know that this is true
every day we need to be encouraged - the world presents so much negativity
we have a great hope who is Jesus
there is no reason to be dismayed nor beaten down
every wrong thing is a beacon of hope when we are in Christ
every day we need to be strengthened
everything that does not come from grace is sin - Romans 14 verse 23
all righteousness comes from faith
our daily walk relies upon our daily connection to Christ
in prayer, in Scripture, in connecting with God’s people
our righteousness is the things of God inspired by the Holy Spirit
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
yet this is not the special gift promised in 1 Corinthians
3. Faith for the Supernatural
to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
there are moments in our lives when a supernatural dose of faith is needed
a faith to be bold in declaring Jesus is Lord
a faith to be holy when all around is wickedness
a faith to be encouraged when the way forward cannot be determined
a faith for you, a faith for the church, a faith for our city
Practical Helps
as for all the gifts, we need to keep our spiritual connections wide open
we go on in the things of Christ - we get to know him more as Ephesians encourages us to do so
we have an anticipation and a willingness to allow the Holy Spirit to work in us
we have a mindset and a heart to be a servant for others - first in the church and then for others outside
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Think of One Matter
something we hope for
this is a training run
remember this gift is for the benefit of the church
wisdom, knowledge, faith blesses us but the ultimate prize is
God using us to bless the church
