Something Has to Change (V37)
Something Has to Change (V37)
And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
(Summary)
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;
His heart being drawn out, and filled with pity to these poor people, upon observing the miserable and sad condition they were in; he turns himself to his disciples.
whom he was about to call, and send forth in a more public manner to preach the Gospel, of which we read in the following chapter; and in order to quicken them to this service, and engage their hearts in it, He speaks to them.
“Then he said to his disciples”
Matthew 9 gives us a snapshot of the work of Christ.
As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.
And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
“Those who are well have no need of physician, but those who are sick.”
“For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Spiritual transformation should be our priority
For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
Then He said to the disciples..... This is a teachable moment…
As an Ambassador and Manager in God’s kingdom, I must be teachable…
God teaches us in many ways…
Through His word
Through prayer
Through His Shepherd(S) - Leadership is shepherding
Through Situations
Through People
Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”
Jesus is about to give His disciples some insight on reaching those who feel harassed and helpless.
“The Harvest” - There are many people to harvest...
The harvest represents people who can be brought into the kingdom
The harvest represents those who are ready to be persuaded to respond to the message of salvation and trust in God
The harvest is great. Opportunity knocks.
Jesus paints a picture that the disciples could relate to…
“Sheep without a Shepherd”
“Harvest is Plentiful”
He had to relate to them…
(Paint A Picture)
“Laborers are Few”
Laborer: worker n. — a person who works at a specific occupation; usually for pay.
There are different functions of a laborer…
But we are dealing with the function of a reaper / Harvester
Who will make connection?
Who will Go out (In-Person or Controlled Context)
Do you see, what I see?
I see A Harvest!
I see People Coming into His Kingdom!
I see people who are spiritual sick
Hurting
Without hope
