THE FLOOD

THE JUSTIFICATION OF THE FLOOD.

Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: For all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

Just means: conforming to a standard of correctness.

I. Violence

Violence in ungodly and the bible continually warns against be quick to loose our temper.

II. There was a rejection of God.

Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

III. God used what man had corrupted to correct mankind.

THE ARK

I. The shape.

Genesis 1–11:26 (1) Announcement of the Flood and Instructions for the Ark (6:13–22)

“Ark” is related to an Egyptian term meaning “box,” chest,” “coffin.” As the LXX rendered “ark” by the word “wooden box” (kibōtos), it would appear that the vessel was envisioned as rectangular in shape, probably flat bottomed, and square at the ends. Essentially the vessel is a floating barge that is designed to ride out the storm without direction. Noah trusts the hand of God as its rudder.

A. Dimensions

450 feet long 75 feet wide 45 feet tall

B. The rooms

The Bible does not specify how many or what size they should be. However, it is estimated that there was almost 100,000 sq. ft of space.

C. The window

All we know is that it was roughly 18 inches

D. The door- had three levels.

Again we have no specifics upon the dimension of the doors.

II. The Materials

A. Gopher wood.

Gopher wood is an obscure term that is only used here in this passage. It is thought that it was a type of pine or cypress.

B. Pitch

Pitch is made from tree sap. The thing that God used to provide life for the trees before being cut down is the same thing that God used to preserve life within the ark of which the wood was made to build.

It was pitched on the inside and the outside.

Pitch comes from the Hebrew word kopher and is the same word that is used in Leviticus 17:11 and is translated as atonement.
