Gilgal is part of the land given to the children of Israel in the promise. In Joshua 5 the LORD told Joshua when the second generation of Israel who hadn’t been circumcised while in the wilderness “This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you. Therefore the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day. They kept the Passover for the first time there since they wandered in the desert for 40 years. If was the last place they ate manna, as now they were allowed to eat the produce from the land. It’s where the Israelites camped right after the LORD parted the JORDAN river for them, and they crossed over on dry ground. This was the place where Elijah was raised. He was literally surrounded with amazing testaments to the strength and power of the LORD.
