Introduction

The book of Isaiah is filled with already fulfilled prophecy and some that are yet to be fulfilled. Isaiah is quoted by the New testament writers over 65 times and he is referneced by name over 20 times in the Old Testament. Often times we can skip the Old testament works in our own study, because they may seem that they are not profitable for us living in light of the New Testament. This is not true, the bible of the New Testament believers was the Old Testament. They read and studied all the books that are contained in the first 2/3rds of your bible. Each book of the OT was inspired by the Holy Spirit, just as the books of the NT.
When we Get to the book of Isaiah we see, a man called by God to be a prophet to his people. In Isaiah 6, Isaiah saw the Lord High and lifted up. He saw the holiness of God, and he responded to God’s call looking for one to send to proclaim judgment and salvation to his people. Isaiah answered that call and was chosen by God to Prophesy to the nation of Israel and Judah.
In the text leading up to where we will be today, God, through Isaiah, is building a charge against the idols of the world. God says “look at the idols that you have made, for they are not like me” and “Look at the Idols that you follow , they are but a delusion: their works are nothing; their metal images are empty wind”. These Idols that the people are looking for in hope, are nothing but delusions. There is nothing to them, they cant save you, they cant bring you peace. The true creator God is the one that can bring you peace and hope. And how will he bring about this peace and hope. He will bring it about through Jesus, the serva Isaiah brings about 4 servant songs through out his book. Im sure that you are familir with Isaiah 53 and the suffering servant. The one that we are going to look at this morning is going to be the first in the four.
As we travel through this hymn I want us to see this main point this morning:
Praise the Servant who brings forth justice and restoration to the world.
