One New Man
One New Man
11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Things to remember
We all come to God with a Preexisting Condition
God has made provisions for everyone that comes to him.
++Jesus has brought it all together
The Paradigm of Separation
The Paradigm of Separation
The message Paul gives to the Ephesians speaks of Jesus’s desire to bring us peace. But not just peace with God. In the text we explore the connection of man’s peace with man is to mankind’s peace with God. Specifically it looks at covenant Israel and Gentile believers.
The Paradigm of Separation
++Was used in creation
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
In creation there was distinction
++Light and darkness
++Day and night
++Land and seas
++Land animals, birds and fish
++Man and Woman
In everything God created he separated something from another.
God makes a new distinction
God makes a new distinction
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
God
++Saw the light
++Declared the light good
++Divided light from darkness
God draws a distinction between light and darkness and declares light as good. It doesn’t mean that darkness is bad. It only states a distinction of preference.
The Paradigm of Separation
Was used in creation
++Brought order to disorder
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The earth was
++Formless
++Empty
++Dark
The Spirit of God
++Began to move
++Hovered over the waters
Nothing of significance happens apart form the Spirit of God
Nothing of significance happens apart form the Spirit of God
From the Spirit of God comes
++Power
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
From the Spirit of God comes
Power
++Revelation
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
From the Spirit of God comes
Power
Revelation
++Impartation
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
It’s All Good
It’s All Good
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
God
++Gave everything distinction
++Gave all things a purpose
++Called it all very good
The Paradigm of Separation
Was used in creation
Brought order to disorder
++Works in a world of divine rule.
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
Where God rules
++There is a Blessing
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; And the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
Where God rules
There is a Blessing
++There is Happiness
15 Happy is that people, that is in such a case: Yea, happy is that people, whose God is the Lord.
Where God rules
There is a Blessing
There is Happiness
++There is Liberty
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Are you blessed today?
Are you happy today?
Are you free today?
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so
Distinction made all things unique
++It brought order
++Diversity was in harmony under God’s rule
Sin changed everything
Sin changed everything
Distinction was no longer cooperated with God
Outside of the rule of God
++Distinctions were contentious
++They were something to fight about
++They became barriers to faith
++They were walls that separated us
God is calling people together
God is calling people together
Jesus Christ
++Is our peace
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Peace is
++Not an absence hostility.
++The product of unity
Before mankind can be at peace with God, We must see each other differently
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Jesus Christ
Is our peace
++Made us both one
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Jesus Christ
Is our peace
Made us both one
++Has broken down the wall
We must let the wall fall
++Don’t try to hold it
++Don’t try to preserve it
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
It is
++Already done
++Finished
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, That ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: That went down to the skirts of his garments;
3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: For there the Lord commanded the blessing, Even life for evermore.
When God’s people get together
++Something Good begins to happen
++Something pleasant is on the way
It is like
++A flowing anointing
++A refreshing dew
In the place of unity
++God commands a blessing
++God gives life forevermore
It is forever....It is more
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
