Introduction
Sin is a DEADLY pandemic, for which man possesses no cure. The remedy for sin lies outside of the capacity of man’s ingenuity. This compounds our unfortunate plight.
It is clear from a biblical perspective that sin is deadly, damaging, destructive, and causes dysfunction in multiple aspects of one’s life. Salvation
Sin requires a SOLUTION! The good news is: Jesus provides the solution.
He provides a “Simple Solution to Secure Salvation”
Our text follows the healing of a lame man who was healed at the gate called Beautiful. Peter turns the attention away from themselves and points to Jesus. This message was directed to a group who had rejected Jesus, now there is an evangelistic thrust to accept Jesus.
Jesus is the Only Source
Jesus is the Only Source
“the chief corner stone” “no one else” “no other name”,
Matt 17:5 “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”
Acts 4:12 This message was received by Peter because later he says “there’s no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved”
1 Tim 2:5 Paul declares, “there is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.
“She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Jesus is the Only Sacrifice
Jesus is the Only Sacrifice
Jesus’ role in salvation is exclusive no one else would’ve done what Jesus did
It was humiliating - Heb 12:2; but Jesus was willing
No one else could’ve done what Jesus did.
Only Jesus fit the criteria to be the perfect sacrifice (sinless; blood has power)
Rom 5:7-8;
knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
but Jesus had the ability Heb 10:9-12
This was the only the sacrifice that appeased God’s wrath for sin. Sin means death, so then, how could God save us and still dispense justice? Jesus!
Obedience is the Only Response
Obedience is the Only Response
The members of the Sanhedrin did not want to heed this message, they also were opposed to this message being preached.
Whenever Christ was preached, obedience was encouraged
Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?”
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike.
Acts 8:35-38 [Read] - Jesus the Son of God is a declarative statement regarding the deity and power of Jesus. It also acknowledges that Jesus is raised from the dead. [Rom 1:3-4]
Obedience What the apostles commanded others, is what Jesus commanded them
Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.
And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,
One must obey to be saved.
