I. Intro: A Psalm or Son of Asaph

75:title TO THE CHOIRMASTER: ACCORDING TO DO NOT DESTROY. A PSALM OF ASAPH. A SONG.

1. Asaph was the son of Berechiah who was a descendant of Levi through his son Gershom.

2. Asaph was a singer who had charge of bronze cymbals (1 Chr 15:19)

3. Asaph was a chief musician or minister before the ark of the covenant as well as a singer with his brothers. (1 Chr 16:4-7)

4. Asaph was also a seer (2 Chr 29:30; cf. 1 Sam 9:9) and the Levites used King David’s and Asaph’s words for Israel’s worshipping of God.

5. Psalms 50 and Psalms 73-83 are affiliated with Asaph.

II. The three springs of giving thanks to God (v. 1)

A. We give thanks to God (1a)

III. God speaks (vs. 2-5)

A. I judge (v. 2)

at the set time I appoint
