Well Done

When thinking of Mike and this message-
I think Deacon
means servant
1 Timothy 3:8–13 CSB
Deacons, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not hypocritical, not drinking a lot of wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. They must also be tested first; if they prove blameless, then they can serve as deacons. Wives, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not slanderers, self-controlled, faithful in everything. Deacons are to be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households competently. For those who have served well as deacons acquire a good standing for themselves and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
HE wore that title with pride
First to show up and last to leave
He modeled what it looks like to live out your faith
I think Crazy Uncle
I used that one time in sermon - Mike took it on as badge of honor
He bounced around making sure everyone welcome
Had a gleam in his eye when he did something that no one saw - fill my coffee, out water on the stage, or go around and take your picture
He modeled for us all
Philippians 2:3–4 CSB
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.
I think Complete
This hurts - death is not natural
Death is the result of our choice to walk away
God made a way - Jesus lived and died
But he rose again - He defeated death
1 Corinthians 15:55–57 CSB
Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
Today we mourn - but we stand wait on a promise
Revelation 21:4–5 CSB
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away. Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words are faithful and true.”
Today we wait, but for Mike this is reality
I know Mike is where he wants to be and would want everyone to know Jesus who greeted him home with “Well done good and faithful servant”
Tonight we close in worship for a God who has defeated death and made a way
We celebrate a life well lived
