Grace - Setting Goals for Growth
Grace - The Power to Overcome
Intro
Grace is the enabling power that helps us to overcome; it is when we are weak that He is strong. We understand that our flesh causes us to sin; we see this from the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, when he ate of the tree of good and evil. We also see with Paul that he was weak in the flesh as well. Paul pleaded with the Lord three times to take the thorn from his flesh.
Open our bibles to 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
Paul understood that in his weakness that Gods grace was sufficient for him. It is in our weakness that Gods grace takes over when we position ourselves under His Grace.
There will be times when our expectation of others or on ourselves will be let down, we need to recognise the weaknesses and that Gods grace is sufficient and in our weakness He is strong.
Read 2 Corinthians 12:7-10. Lets pray.
Prayer
Father we thank You that Your grace is sufficient for us; we understand that in our weakness You are strong. I ask that Your Holy Spirit would bring revelation of Your strength in us that we may have the power to overcome. Amen
Point 1
Hard times will come.
· In our hard times let us not forget God’s grace is sufficient for us.
· God has set us up for success that we can overcome. He has done this by sending Jesus to be an example for us. Romans 8:1-6
· Joseph forgotten in prison by the cupbearer. Genesis 40:1-23 (Paraphrase this story)
· Verse 14 Remember me that Pharaoh may get me out of this place. The cupbearer completely forgot all about Joseph. 2 Years later
· In the hard times God is with us. Psalm 139:1-10 where can I flee from Your presence?
Point 2
It's in your response/attitude.
· Your attitude will determine your altitude. A bad attitude will cause you to miss the blessing of God.
· If we show grace we shall receive grave. Matthew 18:21 Peter asked Jesus the question “How often shall I forgive my brother 7 times”?
· Paul’s response/attitude to the thorn in his flesh was of gratitude towards God’s grace toward him. What is your response.
Point 3
Nothing is withheld.
· God’s grace and glory has been given to us. Psalm 84:11
· Freely you have received freely give. Matthew 10:5-8
· Possessing what is yours. We need to use what has been given to us. Take ownership.
Conclusion
As we bring this part of our service to a close can I get the worship team to come back up please? Church, God’s Grace is the enabling power that helps us to overcome; it is when we are weak that He is strong. When hard times come, God give us the strength to overcome, it is in our response/attitude that determines the outcome that we will experience. Remember God has not withheld His grace and glory from us, but He has empowered us to overcome through Grace.
