Introduction

What is a double-standard?
The use to two different criteria or standards for judging a situation, standard of living, basis for relationships, etc.

Problems with Double-standard

For me, not thee:

One standard is used to benefit the person with the double-standard while the second standard is designed to hinder, harm, or otherwise disadvantage the other person.
Goal: provide an advantage for oneself or one’s group at the expense of others (disadvantaging others).
Examples of a double-standard
Institutional racism: one set of rules benefiting one racial group while, at the same times, having another set of rules used to disadvantage or take advantage or oppress another group.
Basis for acceptance/rejection of people
Race
Beliefs (political, religious, moral, etc.)
Results
Mistreatment of people; privileged others
One set is abused; another set is allowed to live with impunity (on certain wrongs).
Injustice: the very concept of justice includes one set of rules for all people. In other words, no double-standard.
