Passage Analysis: Praise to the Creator and Preserver.
Psalms 33 in its totality is about “Praise to the Creator and Preserver”.
God is our creator, He is the Creator and God is also a Preserver.
As believers we need to identify the fact that God and God alone is our preserver and our Creator.
Creator: The one who fashions, shapes, creates, in regards to the Hebrew definition it is one that creates, fashions shapes with divine activity. To make something out of nothing, to take something and refashion it or repurpose it, to transform something.
Preserver: (Hayah) The one that is alive, the one causes one to have life, the one who sustains life, the one who brings back to life.
Hence when
I. The Lord is aware of us (Verses 13-15)
I. The Lord is aware of us (Verses 13-15)
The Lord is looking from heaven, he is aware, he sees the whole human race.
The Lord is looking from heaven, he is aware, he sees the whole human race.
From his dwelling place (throne) he sees all that is going on.
From his dwelling place (throne) he sees all that is going on.
This is good news for the believer (Why?) This is bad news for the unbeliever and unrighteous (Why?)
God made us and he made our hearts and God knows what is in our hearts.
God made us and he made our hearts and God knows what is in our hearts.
He knows our intentions, He knows why we do what we do, He knows our strengthens and He knows our limitations.
II. Don’t trust in futile things (Verse 16-17)
II. Don’t trust in futile things (Verse 16-17)
The king, those who rule, those who have power, those who have military power are not saved by a mighty army.
The king, those who rule, those who have power, those who have military power are not saved by a mighty army.
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
In this context the scriptures are specifically talking about kings. Yet, this scripture also applies to anyone that will trust in anything other than God.
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
God is not impressed with the strength of horses, He is not impressed at weapons that man has in his arsenal, God is not impressed with the legs of a man: this is a very interesting part of the scriptures because the legs are in fact the strongest part of a persons body, you can have a strong upper-body but if you only work out your chest, back, and arms and neglect your legs you’ll still be weak. God is not concerned with how strong you are, you can be strong in a lot of things besides just physical strength, you can have mental strength, but that’s not what impresses or moves God. God takes pleasure in them that have reverential fear in him, and those that hope in his mercy or his unfailing love!
Nor does great strength (military prowess, knowledge of maneuvers, physical strength, or even smartness) save a warrior or soldier.
Nor does great strength (military prowess, knowledge of maneuvers, physical strength, or even smartness) save a warrior or soldier.
Don’t count on your warhorses to give you victory, for all its strength, it cannot save you.
Don’t count on your warhorses to give you victory, for all its strength, it cannot save you.
God is the only one that can save you. Men’s hearts our failing them everywhere all over the world. People are panicking, they are falling into despair, they are trusting in their own strength, they are trusting in people, in this time that we presently in and going forward we have to put our trust and full confidence in God!
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
God will not forsake us if we keep looking to Him, if we turn from our evil ways and seek the face of the LORD.
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
III. God will rescue us (Verses 18-19)
III. God will rescue us (Verses 18-19)
The Lord watches over those who fear him and rely on his unfailing love.
The Lord watches over those who fear him and rely on his unfailing love.
The LORD rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of hunger.
The LORD rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of hunger.
IV. We rejoice because of our hope (Verses 20-22)
IV. We rejoice because of our hope (Verses 20-22)
We put our hope in the LORD.
We put our hope in the LORD.
We need to put all of our hope and our confidence in the LORD. The LORD is our help and He is our shield (protector).
In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.
In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.
When we put our full confidence in the LORD it lifts us above despair. It causes us to rejoice....why because we are not trusting in our outward circumstances, we are not trusting in what man can do, but our full confidence is in God and the God that I serve is awesome, and the God that I serve can do anything!
Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD for our hope is in you alone!
Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD for our hope is in you alone!
Only God can deliver us, only God can bring us out, only God can preserve us, only God can keep us!
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
Present tense “he also is become my salvation” meaning that he is working things out for me....right now.
Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!
