Short sermon with worship service

Notes
Transcript
This week we had a worship service for our student Chapel
And it felt like that was so desperately needed
In a time like this where there is so much grief and trial, that we need to turn to our faces to God
To posture ourselves in humble obedience to Him
That’s why today I just feel the need to continue in worship
But before we do, I shared a bit of my heart to the kids
Told them a part of my testimony of how I was losing my faith
Grew up in church my whole life
Familiarity breeds contempt
The words had a sense of worthlessness to me because I allowed them to just be words
And so many of these students and maybe some here have allowed the words to just remain words
If you look for religion you will find religion
But if you’re looking for hope, and truth you will find Jesus
God is not just a God of the mind but a God of the heart
And He takes the word from the head and He opens up our hearts
But I was so stuck in my head
There’s so much conflict
But it wasn’t until my commitment to surrender which is our act of worship that I felt the word return back to my heart
To felt the transformation and the healing that took place from the head to the heart
And one of our dear teachers came to me afterwards and was touched but asked me what did it for you though
How did it go from the head to the heart
And I had to think about it, and yes it was surrendering and letting go
But ultimately I had to feel what it was like to be without Jesus to realize how desperately I need Him
So maybe that’s you today, you might not be losing your faith, but maybe you just need remind yourself how desperately you need Jesus today
I had a word planned for today, but I just felt the need with it being Thanksgiving and all to take a moment and just saturate ourselves in praise
To refocus, to correct our posture
You know like when your parents would always nag you about slouching, looking lazy - sit up straight
I’m telling you the opposite, we need to be on our faces, on our knees crying out, Daddy Father, I need you
I’m desperate for more of you, desperate for a touch from Heaven
I want to shower you with adoration because of your goodness and faithfulness over my life
Let my praise be worthy oh Lord
Because you are near to all call upon you
