GIDEON - WALKING IN FAITH
GIDEON - WALKING IN FAITH
Intro. - We often describe people who do their own thing as “marching to the beat of a different drummer.” This is
usually an indication of weirdness. But could this be true of Christians? We so often walk to the drumbeat of the
world that we forget we’re to walk to the beat of a different drummer. Let’s look at Gideon.
Faith Means Believing What god Says About You Judges 6:12-16
The angel identified Gideon as a mighty warrior
First, Gideon questions God
Gideon questions his own abilities
Do we believe what God says about us? We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a honly nation, a people
belonging to God (! Peter 2:9). We are overcomers (1 John 5:5).
Faith Means Deliberately Trusting God’s Power And Not Your Own Judges 7:2-6
The first thing done is to reduce the army size. The glory will go to God for the victory. The enemy numbered 135,000
and Gideon’s men numbered 300.
DJ #41, p52 - “Faith means deliberately moving beyond our comfort zone, that area of security where it’s easy to trust
our own abilities. Taking the risk to go beyond that, in obedience to our Lord, forces us to depend on Him
Faith Means Depending On God’s Methods Judges 7:15-22a
Can you imagine Gideon explaining his methods to a reporter or a military man?
Christians cannot explain their methods - servanthood (Mt. 20:26-27), possessions (rich young ruler, Mt. 6:33),
life (Mt. 10:39), & advancement (Lk 9:23).
Concl. - A great victory resulted. Whose beat are you listening to?
