Therefore

The second therefore 1st V 13 Chapter 1
we looked at that therefore last week
being on the team
1 Peter 1:13–15 LEB
13 Therefore, when you have prepared your minds for action by being self-controlled, put your hope completely in the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former desires you used to conform to in your ignorance, 15 but as the one who called you is holy, you yourselves be holy in all your conduct,
And this therefore is put here because of V 3
1 Peter 1:3–4 LEB
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 into an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading, reserved in heaven for you
and now we have another therefore
connected to the above verses
Because God Has given you a new life
we are therefore Chapter 2

Rid Yourselves

1 Peter 2:1 LEB
1 Therefore, ridding yourselves of all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,
Stripping off , lay it aside
discard it
The Christians life cant grow unless we renounce these sins
All Malice -All totally, Evil, wickedness
perversion
Wanting evil to be done to someone
Deceit- treachery, bait, shewed
Hypocrisies - pretending You have the qualities and beliefs you don’t have
Envy - Jealousy spite and resentment toward another success, possession
Evil speakings - slander, abusive words spoken falsely to damage someones reputation
We have a tendency to return to our old way of life
That way of life has to be taken off and gotten rid of
Romans 6:1–7 LEB
1 What therefore shall we say? Shall we continue in sin, in order that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so also we may live a new way of life. 5 For if we have become identified with him in the likeness of his death, certainly also we will be identified with him in the likeness of his resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified together with him, in order that the body of sin may be done away with, that we may no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For the one who has died has been freed from sin.
before the Triune God gave us new life this kind of behavior was in our natural to us
now we are no longer Enslaved to this sin, so lets get rid of it
The world knows how a christian should act
and we are to be an example of what Jesus has done for us
these sins after they are gotten rid of , we then have a ....

Hungering For Spiritual Food

1 Peter 2:2 LEB
2 like newborn infants long for the unadulterated spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation,
newborn fawn...
crave to be spiritually fed.and delight in His word
newborn Christians devour Gods word
but over time the craving goes away
pray for that hunger
pray for to know and love God
pray for God to show you the sin that needs to be taken care of
In order to grow strong and healthy
1 Peter 2:3 LEB
3 if you have tasted that the Lord is kind,
This is a quotation from
Psalm 34:6–10 LEB
6 This poor man called and Yahweh heard, and saved him from all his troubles. 7 The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear him, and he rescues them. 8 Taste and see that Yahweh is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. 9 Fear Yahweh, you his saints, for there is no lack for those who fear him. 10 The young lions are in want and suffer hunger, but those who seek Yahweh will not lack for any good thing.
We are drawing near to Adonai
remaining in His presence
1 Peter 2:3–4 LEB
3 if you have tasted that the Lord is kind, 4 to whom you are drawing near, a living stone rejected by men but chosen and precious in the sight of God.
Jesus was rejected, and killed
Jesus was the chosen Messiah
The anointed one

Living Stones

1 Peter 2:4 LEB
4 to whom you are drawing near, a living stone rejected by men but chosen and precious in the sight of God.
Granite, marble,
Hewn stone, the building blocks of great buildings
Washington DC buildings made from Deer Isle granite
Solomon’an Herods temple were made of massive, shaped rock
Jesus is called a living stone
1 Peter 2:6 LEB
6 For it stands in scripture, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.”
The cornerstone, where the building starts
Careful measurements were conducted to ensure the rest of the building is square and plumb, and in proper alignment
Jesus is the cornerstone of the christian faith
And we are the living stones that make up the rest of the building
The Tabernacle
1 Peter 2:5 LEB
5 And you yourselves, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
as a building block we need to fit perfectly with the blocks around us
as living blocks we sometimes will not fit in well with an believing pentecostal, catholic, American Baptist, or an Messianic Jew
Read 1 Peter 2 1-7
Because you are a part of a living building, with Jesus as the Cornerstone
We need to get rid of the bad stuff
so you can get the good stuff
and get along with our christian neighbors
There is honor to all who believe

Remember Who You Are

1 Peter 2:7–8 LEB
7 Therefore the honor is for you who believe, but for those who refuse to believe, “The stone that the builders rejected, this one has become the cornerstone,” 8 and “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,” who stumble because they disobey the word to which also they were consigned.
KJV whereunto they were appointed
NKJV which they also were appointed
ESV as they were destined to do
But
1 Peter 2:9 LEB
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s possession, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light,

1 Peter 2:10–12 LEB
10 who once were not a people, but now are the people of God, the ones who were not shown mercy, but now are shown mercy. 11 Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires which wage war against your soul, 12 maintaining your good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in the things in which they slander you as evildoers, by seeing your good deeds they may glorify God on the day of visitation.
this life is bu a vapor
Peter here is reminding us who we are
because we might be heading toward hard times
and its better to be prepared
than to be blindsided
