SHORTCUTS TO DEATH

Shortcut - a shorter alternative route or an accelerated way of doing or achieving something.
A route more direct than the one ordinarily taken, a method or means of doing something more directly and quickly than and often not so thoroughly as by ordinary procedure.
YOU CAN SHORTEN YOUR LIFE BY DISOBEDIENCE
The men who disobeyed God and looked into the ark shortened their lives.
Numbers 4:17–20 KJV 1900
And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, Cut ye not off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites: But thus do unto them, that they may live, and not die, when they approach unto the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in, and appoint them every one to his service and to his burden: But they shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, lest they die.
1 Samuel 6:19 KJV 1900
And he smote the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the Lord, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the Lord had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.
YOU CAN SHORTEN YOUR LIFE BY DISHONESTY
"As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool"
Jeremiah 17:11 KJV 1900
As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.
Achan brought death to himself and his family by dishonesty
Joshua 7:19–21 KJV 1900
And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me. And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done: When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
Joshua 7:24–26 KJV 1900
And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor. And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the Lord shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones. And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the Lord turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.
YOU CAN SHORTEN YOUR LIFE BY REBELLION
Korah shortened his life by rebellion
Numbers 16:1–2 KJV 1900
Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
Numbers 16:31–33 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
Hananiah shortened his life by rebellion
Jeremiah 28:15–17 KJV 1900
Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The Lord hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie. Therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the Lord. So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.
YOU CAN SHORTEN YOUR LIFE BY HARDENING YOUR NECK (STUBBORNNESS)
"He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy"
Proverbs 29:1 KJV 1900
He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
Stubbornness has shortened the lives of many people.
YOU CAN SHORTEN YOUR LIFE BY LYING TO GOD
Ananias and Sapphira shortened their lives by lying to God
Acts 5:1-10
YOU CAN SHORTEN YOUR LIFE BY LIVING AFTER THE FLESH
"For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die..."
Romans 8:13 KJV 1900
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Living after the flesh means doing what the sinful old nature desires. This has shortened the lives of many people.
YOU CAN SHORTEN YOUR LIFE BY NOT JUDGING YOURSELF
"For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world"
1 Corinthians 11:31–32 KJV 1900
For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
CONCLUSION:
Let me ask you the question in
Ecclesiastes 7:17 KJV 1900
Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?
"Why shouldest thou die before thy time?"
Don't be disobedient, dishonest, rebellious, stubborn, full of lies, living after the flesh and failing to judge yourself.
Put your trust completely in the Lord Jesus Christ and let Him make you obedient, honest, yielded, submissive, and truthful; one who lives after the Spirit and judges himself.
