The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality,
why he didn’t tell both to do the same (to the best of my understanding the culture must have been different.
v. 10 goes back to Gen. 6 (sons of god) Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:4-7
Matt. 22:27ff be like angels in heaven(different than those who left heaven)
And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day,
just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.
in that culture it was a matter of modesty. (some still needs to wear a head covering, then they should be wearing a burka and cover her whole head if you take it literally)
immodest dress
v. 15 to wrap around - hair covering - your object is to not to attract attention to yourself but to God
THE LORD’S SUPPER
THE LORD’S SUPPER

WHEN DID THEY COME TOGETHER?
WHEN DID THEY COME TOGETHER?

they manifested them in the public assembly
v. 19 it was clear who was the head of these factions (became a show of who had the most followers)
v. 20 impossible to eat the Lords supper
I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet,
Lords day and Lords supper - Jesus day and supper - its the day he rose from the grave (on the first the day of the week) 11:23
didache 14:1-2
justin martyr apology 1.65-67
go back to 1 Cor. 10:17
v. 21 eating their own supper, not waiting for eachother, overeating, and getting drunk
v. 22 compare to v. 34 not a meal to satisfy your hunger
L.S. is supposed to be a demonstration of unity and fellowship, not division
L.S. is supposed to be a demonstration of unity and fellowship, not division
spiritual meal for a spiritual fellowship
L.S. is designed to be taken when the church comes together
L.S. is supposed to be a demonstration of unity and fellowship, not division
L.S. to use as a manifestation of division is to do it in an unworthy manner
people who do this fail to discern the body of Christ.
traditions - things that are passed down - traditions passed down from God and traditions passed down from man
v. 23 this is the passed down from the Lord
v. 24 eucharist = give thanks (not help, help me, help me but thank you, thank you, thank you)
kjv gets this verse wrong “my body which is broken for you”
For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, “Not a bone of Him shall be broken.”
Ordering the people to sit down on the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds,
and He took the seven loaves and the fish; and giving thanks, He broke them and started giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
God doesn’t bless the bread (God bless this bread is a carry over from Catholicism) God is not going to do anything to the bread
“You shall not eat leavened bread with it; seven days you shall eat with it unleavened bread, the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste), so that you may remember all the days of your life the day when you came out of the land of Egypt.
bread of affliction - suffering and affliction of their suffering in Egypt.
“this is my body” - not going to think about the suffering of Israel but thinking about my affliction and suffering
do this in remembrance of me
not contest to see who has the most followers not in display of division, not a common meal
v. 25
everybody had to drink 4 cups of wine during the passover feast (mixed with water) each cup marked a section of the service (see Mishna Pesahim 10)
no mention of cup in the O.T. (no significance in the cup) blood of Christ that was shed for sins and the redemptive work of Christ
remember thankfully the sacrifice of Christ not designed to make us feel guilty.
v. 26 we are saying to the world we believe in the redemptive work of Christ, we believe the grace of God that is given to us in the sacrice of Christ.
remembrance, proclamation, fellowship (sharing with each-other and God) 1 Cor. 10
v.27 “in an unworthy manner” not about the worthiness of the person but the way we are going about it.
v. 28 “so” - in this manner
examining - am i thinking about how I hate my brother and ther is division in my heart
v. 29 “discerning the body” 1 Cor. 10:17 the body is the church
wait for one another - take it all together
it is a unity thing, a together thing, we are the body of Christ together we are in in the body and blood of Christ.
v. 30 for this reason - they were divisive and not discerning the body rightly
sleep - died
v. 31 - 32 we are judged when are divisive in the Lords supper (judgment immediately by the Lord)
v. 33 its a together thing (unity and fellowship not a display of division)
