Sacrifice: Something given up to a deity, most often to make atonement for sin, but also for other reasons related to the Mosaic Law. Also: “Blood,” “Idol Sacrifices,” “Offering,” “Offerings in the OT,” “Sacrifice and Offering,” “Sacrifice and Offerings,” and “Sacrifices and Offerings.”
Genesis 8:13-22: Noah builds an altar in worship of God.
Tpleased God. This sacrifice along with all God ordained sacrifices looked ahead to the crucifixion of Jesus.
Isaiah 52:13-53, 54:9
Genesis 12:4-9: Abram offers sacrifices and calls upon the name of YHWH.
Genesis 15:1-6: The Lord reiterates His promise to give Abram offspring. Abram believes God and it is accounted to him as righteousness.
Genesis 15:7-20: God promises to give Abram a land and confirms it with an oath in blood covenant. With Adam the animals were brought to him for naming… With Abram God names the animals and has Abram to bring them to Him. They are offered to God in sacrifice. Remember, the animals are a temporary helper for man.
v. 12: A deep sleep falls on Abram, as it was with Adam resulting in offspring.
Abraham’s ultimate sacrifice opens the way for God to make His ultimate sacrifice.
