Whole
Whole
After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.” Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.
Now that day was the Sabbath.
There are a lot of sick people in our world. “A multitude of invalids.”
invalid - (def) to be without strength
blind - without vision; unable to see
lame - crippled; unable to move; dysfunctional (a part of the body)
paralyzed - withered; deformed
Do you want to be whole? Do you want to be healed?
The Lord intends for you to be whole - completely healed - mind, body, soul and spirit.
What was the man’s response to Jesus question?
Sir, I have no man. He thought his change, his healing, depended upon external help - somebody else.
Colossians 2:6-12
Watch this progression:
1. Receive Christ Jesus the Lord (v6)
2. Walk in
3. Rooted and built up in him (v7)
4. Founded in the faith (v7)
5. Abounding in thanksgiving
6. Not captivated by philosophy, empty deceit, tradition
7. The fullness of God dwells in him (v9)
8. He dwells in YOU!
9. You are complete in HIM (v 10) The head of all principality and power. Vous avez tout pleinement en lui, qui est le chef de toute domination et de tout autorite/
Lets hear this in another way - he is in charge of everything that has the potential to dominate or lead us. Every spiritual power that exists - every spiritual authority - is subject to the King of Kings - the Lord Jesus Christ.
Through the cross he:
Washed away sin and its condemnation.
Spoiled (disarmed the rulers) or emptied principalities and powers - no authority or domination over the redeemed.
Matthew 9:20-22
Woman with an issue of blood - suffered for 12 years
Note : self-talk - she said to herself, “If I can but touch the hem of his garment , I will be whole.” Then she touched the hem of his garment.
JESUS saw her and said,"Take heart, daughter, your faith has made you whole…and instantly the woman was made whole.
On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
Ten lepers, stood at a distance - a result of their sickness - isolation
Lifted up their voices - Jesus, Master - have mercy on us
Saw them - “Go, show yourselves to the priest.” Act of faith.
As they went, they were cleansed.
Talk to Jesus.
Do what he says.
Be healed.
Praise God - Humble yourself - Express thanks.
Be made whole - complete.
Rise and go, your faith has made you whole.
Some people are cleansed, healed even, but not whole.
some things are lacking, emotionally, mentally, socially - They are saved but they are not complete.
NOTE: the difference between the Samaritan and the other 9 lepers
Recognition - saw that he was healed
Repentance - Turned toward Jesus .
Rejoicing - praised God with a loud voice. (exuberance)
Respect - fell on his face at Jesus feet.
Thankfulness - gave thanks.
Worship - gave glory to God - (honor) It is one thing to recognize what God does, it is another thing to recognize who God is.
Your attitude toward God determines your interaction with and perspective of God.
