Emmanuel Session 2 | Peace
Some antonyms or opposites of peace:
· Anxiety
· Fear
· Stress
· Mental unrest
· Disturbance
· Disorder
· Hostility
When you don’t have peace in your mind you are robbed of so many other things in life.
Where does lack of peace come from? (3 sources) (Consider the source of your fear and anxiety. Genesis 3-who told you that you were naked?)
· Spiritual attack of the enemy
· Physical, neurological, phycological
· Anchoring our peace into shakable things and not Christ.
Peace vs. security (we look for things to anchor our hope in that we think will bring us peace and security)
What do I find myself anchoring my sense of peace in?
Our favorite memories can give us a temporary peace but that will fade away.
Advent changed it all!!
Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Prince-commander, chief, ruler, leader.
Peace-prosperity, success, welfare, deliverance, salvation, completeness, soundness, peace.
· Peace with God produces peace of God
· Peace is a fruit of abiding in Christ.
Abiding in the Prince of Peace
Ephesians 6:10-13
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
Philippians 4:6-9
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
Anxious- care, worry, full of mental distress or uneasiness because of fear of danger or misfortune; greatly worried.
What is hindering my breakthrough?
When I am idle it opens the door to oppression.
When I am about my father’s business, I am fueled and empowered.
When I am functioning in my spiritual gifts in serving others, it’s hard to back slide and fall into sin.
Questions:
1. What do you find yourself anchoring your sense of peace into?
2. What is one thing you can do to allow Jesus to be your Prince of Peace?
