Jesus’ Birth Foretold
Jesus’ Birth Foretold
Jesus was born supernaturally. God is His father.
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: See, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.
The birth of Jesus Christ came about this way: After his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant from the Holy Spirit. So her husband, Joseph, being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her secretly.
But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
See, the virgin will become pregnant
and give birth to a son,
and they will name him Immanuel,
which is translated “God is with us.”
Jesus Was born in Bethlehem
Micah 5:2
Bethlehem Ephrathah,
you are small among the clans of Judah;
one will come from you
to be ruler over Israel for me.
His origin is from antiquity,
from ancient times.
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star at its rising and have come to worship him.”
When King Herod heard this, he was deeply disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. So he assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Messiah would be born.
“In Bethlehem of Judea,” they told him, “because this is what was written by the prophet:
And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah:
Because out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.”
Jesus was worshiped by other nations, not just Israel.
Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord shines over you.
For look, darkness will cover the earth,
and total darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will shine over you,
and his glory will appear over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings to your shining brightness.
Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and falling to their knees, they worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Jesus came out of Egypt
When Israel was a child, I loved him,
and out of Egypt I called my son.
After they were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Get up! Take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. For Herod is about to search for the child to kill him.” So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night, and escaped to Egypt. He stayed there until Herod’s death, so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled: Out of Egypt I called my Son.
Our faith depends upon the truth of the claim that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead. For that to have happened, He had to be born. These are just a few prophecies about Jesus and His birth. I want us to remember this Christmas season that Jesus came…was born of a virgin…as God planned. He was born in a seemingly insignificant town…as God planned. He was worshiped by the Magi from foreign nations…as God planned. Had to flee to Egypt and return from Egypt…as God planned. This all happened just the way God had planned up to the minute details so that we could celebrate the birth of our savior. The awesome thing about this story that began upon a midnight clear…it continues today. God is working out His plans and they include all of us. As we go to our different classes, lets rejoice in the fact that God planned for this night and we are in His grand plans! Lets honor Him by recognizing that and follow his plan for our lives…I will leave you with this…one of my favorite verses that I quote often to the teens...
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.
