Prince of peace
Prince of peace
The world wants peace but the peace that is needed comes from out of this world then comes to the world so everlasting peace can be obtained.
Prince of peace proclaimed (Isa9:6)
6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Because the Mighty God, Prince of Peace came we can have peace beyond our understanding
Peace beyond our understanding/comprehension (Php4:7)
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
While the world today gathers, many in buildings much like this and are celebrating the child born and the son given (Isa9:6) we are here to look at our Prince of Peace that is peace that is needed in this world. (expand on this)
Did you know you are a peacemaker because of the Prince of Peace (Mt5:9)
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Worlds defined peace: Noun 1.freedom from disturbance; tranquility. 2.a state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended
Peace not war, not conflict, a time of tranquility, but peace from our peace is more than that and that is what we are talking about this morning.
Jesus is our Peace
Jesus is our Peace
Jesus as God’s acceptable sacrifice (Heb10:11-14) we have peace with God (Rom5:1) and that makes with God and creates peace with man too.
Jesus our peace, because He is God’s acceptable sacrifice (Heb10:11-14)
11 Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; 12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God,
13 waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet. 14 For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
There were generations of sacrifices made on behalf of sinful man, but only one sacrifice that took away the sins of man.
Jesus our peace made peace between man and God (Rom5:1)
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Jesus Christ God’s sacrifice, Jesus Christ God’s peacemaker. Not only is he the peacemaker, our peace, making peace between man and God, but between man and man too.
Jesus our peace made peace between man and man too (Eph2:14-17; referenced Eph2:1-8 too)
14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace,
16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near;
Paul had told the church at Ephesus that previously they were:
Like the Ephesians were, we too were dead in our trespasses (Eph2:1)
They were by nature children of wrath (Eph2:3)
But God, out of His mercy, His love, made us alive by grace through faith (Eph2:4-5, 8)
Now, goes on to tell them that God made both Jews and Gentiles to come together as one people (Eph2:14)
(Insert two into one picture here)
Jesus our peace made both Jews and Gentiles into one people (Eph2:14)
How did He do it? He did it by the church (expand)
Jesus our peace, taking the law out of the way made the two into one man, thus establishing peace (Eph2:15)
Jesus our peace, put to death the enmity between and and God, Jew and Gentile (Eph2:16)
Enmity what an interesting word. It is (N) and is defined as: “the state or feeling of being actively opposed or hostile to someone or something.”
Previously Jews did not deal with Gentiles and Gentiles did not deal with Jews, but God made the one people in Christ. Here is a freebie not on your outline.
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
We are all the same “in Christ!”
Jesus our peace tore down the wall of separation and reconciled all to the Holy God through Him (Eph2:14; Heb10:19-25)
19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,
21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,
25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
I had thought about paraphrasing the Hebrews passage but the word is much better than any paraphrase I may give, though I reserve the right to do that at other times, lol.
So, from Hebrews:
(Time and lord willing expand on these below all because of the Jesus our peace)
We can enter, confidently to the Holy Place by the blood of Christ (v.19)
We can draw near with sincere heart, in full assurance, having been washed with pure water (v.22)
So hold fast our confession, look how to stimulate one another and don’t stop assembling together (vv.23-25)
(Transition) Jesus our peace brought us peace from the God of peace. Our Mighty God, our God of peace through the Prince of peace, making peace! So, may we press on now?
The God of Peace
The God of Peace
Jesus our Deliverer, our Redeemer brought us peace (Jn14:27). The peace with with Father through the son, so we are looking now at God’s peace.
27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
Jesus peace is God’s peace (Heb13:20-21).
20 Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, 21 equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Peace was brought by Jesus when He was raised from the dead
Peace given to equip us for every good thing (expand, expand, expand on (v.21))
God’s peace sanctifies us (1The5:23-24; Jn3:5-6, 4:24)
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
The God of peace sanctifies us, not partially, but entirely, that all of us, (spirit, soul, body) be preserved complete. I want to pause here for just a moment or two to talk about spirit, soul and body.
(Insert Spirit soul and body picture here)
Body this is what people see, this is also our senses (see, hear, taste, touch and smell)
Soul: This is our inner part, our mind, our will, our emotions, they make us who we are, our soul makes up our personality.
Spirit: This is our inner being, this is the hidden part. We are the only creations noted in the bible to have a spirit, given from God (Gen2:7 implied; breath of life; without spirit we are dead)
Jesus said we need to be born of the Spirit (Jn3:5-6) and this is our spirit filled with His Spirit
5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
and when we worship we need to worship in Spirit (our spirit) and truth (our mind, will, emotions, our body) and in the truth of His word.
24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
(Transition) Now back to our passage about the God of peace from 1The5.
He sanctifies us entirely, so that we may be preserved complete, without blame (v.23)
God of peace is faithful and has called us (v.24)
Faithful in His calling, how did He call us? Through the gospel (expand on this) God’s offer of salvation (again think back to Eph2:1-9 we discussed earlier)
God of peace equipped us with gospel of peace (Eph6:15)
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
(Transition) Fitted, equipped, given, so we can take it to others because Jesus is our peace that brought us peace that came from above from the God of peace and that now leads us to some results of this peace from our Prince of Peace Jesus!
Jesus our peace and peace’s results in us
Jesus our peace and peace’s results in us
Jesus, our Prince of Peace is a proven provider of many things, so, we need to let Him rule (Col3:15) and receive His equipping, providing.
Christ’s peace its your choice (Col3:15)
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
His peace calls us into one body. Called by the gospel, into one body, the church. He did this even knowing our past and provided a way for us to have a eternal future with Him.
(be prepared to expand on each of the ones below)
We need to decide to let Him rule in our hearts by trusting Him to:
Guide us (Ps32:8)
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Protect us (2The3:3)
3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
Protect us by showing us a way out and any temptation, which are common to man (1Cor10:13)
Protect us by holding us with his victorious right hand (Isa41:10)
Give us victory (1Cor15:55-57)
victory over death!
55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;
57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Victory over death through our peace, Jesus Christ!
Give us inner peace (Php4:6-7)
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Inner peace that leaves us anxious for nothing, because we know the peace of God will guard us!
help us not to worry (1Pt5:7)
7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
inner peace for we know we can trust Him and cast all our cares upon Him because He cares for us.
Give us meaning (Php2:13)
13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
Gives us meaning, to will and work for His good pleasure (expand: what brings God pleasure)
Finally, to keep us (Isa26:3)
3 “The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You.
Keep you in perfect peace!
(invitation slide- Gods peace in us) invitation, Is Jesus your peace? Assurance of eternal peace for those who are in Christ Jesus (Song) (Prayer)
