How To Follow Jesus When You Are Mistreated—1 Peter 2:21-25
21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 22“He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” Vs. 21-22
If You Follow Jesus’ Example When:
· INSULTED :àYou Will Not [RETALIATE], But [BLESS YOUR TORMENTORS INSTEAD]
23When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate…Verse 23a
8Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. 9Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 1 Peter 3:8-9
· SUFFERING :àYou Will Not [THREATEN], But [TRUST YOURSELF TO GOD INSTEAD]
…When he suffered, he made no threats. Instead,
he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. V23b
5Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. 6He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. 7My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. 8Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Selah Psalm 62:5-8
· PUSHED TO INIQUITY:à You will Not [GO ASTRAY], But [LIVE FOR GOD INSTEAD]
24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. Verses 24-25
12He … entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. 13… 14How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! Hebrews 9:12-14
