“WHAT SEETH THOU?” — AMOS 8:1-10
What did you see this evening? Can you see the signs of the time? Do you know that God is against sin and sinners? Do you know God will not forget any of your works, whether good or bad? Can’t you see it is time to seek the Lord?
I. CAN YOU SEE THE SIGNS OF THE TIME?
1. {Am8:1-2} What seeth thou—it was a basket of summer fruit.
A. The end was near for the nation Israel.
B. The time of blessing was about over and the time of judgment drew near.
2. Many judge the time by money and prosperity: Mat 16:3
A. In Matthew Israel was tat the threshold of a great blessing if they would but look and see the signs of the times, Jesus Christ.
B. {Am8:3} They did not know what time it was by God’s calendar & clock.
C. It Was Time To Repent Or Perish.
3. {Am8:3} The time for singing, dancing was almost over.
4. Too many Christians today cannot discern the time: 1 Chr 12:32
A. We need to be like these men and know the signs of God’s time!
B. What time is it on God’s clock, not the nuclear clock, but God’s Clock?
5. Man cannot know the exact time, but can know the season: Ecc 9:12
6. It is time to wake up, saint and lost sinners: Rom 13:11
A. It is time to redeem the time: Eph 5:16
B. We are in the last part of the last days: 1 John 2:18
II. CAN YOU SEE THE SICKEDNESS THAT IS IN THE WORLD?
1. {Am8:4-6} How many dread their religious service as a waste of time? Amos 8:4-6
2. Greed is all around us and wickedness of every kind.
III. CAN YOU SEE GOD IS AGAINST THE UNRIGHEOUS?
1. {Am8:8-10} God is against sin and the sinner and will punish the sinner for their ungodly deeds.
2. God will not clear the guilty: Num 14:18
3. God hates the way of sinners: Nah 1:3
4. God is angry with the wicked every day (No Holidays Days or Days off): Psa 7:10-11
5. God chastens His own: Psa 38:1-7
A. God sent Jesus to die on the Cross of Calvary for the sins of His people.
B. God chastens those for whom Jesus died; what awaits those whom Jesus did not die?
6. Men will see one day that God is against their sins: Rev 1:7
IV. CAN YOU SEE GOD WILL NOT FORGET YOUR WORKS?
1. God will not forget any of your works: Amos 8:7
2. Sins are graven upon the stone of remembrance: Jer 17:1
A. It is an everlasting record!
3. Sinners do not consider that God remember all: Hos 7:2
4. God has appointed a day: Acts 17:31
A. There will be no secrets in that day: Rom 2:16
B. Everybody will give an account to God: Rom 14:10-12
C. Every deed done in the body will be judged: 2 Cor 5:10
D. God knows and remembers the work of the church, whither good or bad: Rev 2:2,9,13,19; 3:1,8,15
E. After the saints are judged of Christ, then they will judge along side Christ: 1 Cor 6:2-3
5. God will cast the unbelieving into the “Lake of Fire”: Rev 20:14-15; Rev 21:8: Rev 21:8
A. {Am8:10} What a conclusion to this passage “the end thereof as a bitter day.”
V. CAN YOU SEE IT IS TIME TO SEEK THE LORD?
1. God calls us, as He called them of old: Hos 10:12
2. Jesus will come one day in judgment against all evil: Zec 14:1-9
3. God has raised up a standard against His enemy: Isa 59:19-21
4. God will forget all the debt (our sin debt), for which Christ died!
5. God has provided us a new way to approach the living God: Heb 10:15-20
Can you see the basket is full of summer fruit, that the fruit is turning the corner? Can you see the signs of the time and the wickedness in this world? Can you see that God is against sin and will not forget the workers of iniquity?
Will you see that it is time to seek the LORD?
