Just Give it Away

22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Title: Just Give it Away!
I was intending to preach today on three things that we must give away in order to live a life of maximum fulfillment.
Cares - give them away
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
b. Our praise and Glory for and to God - give them to him
c. Money - give it away.
But I feel like I’m just going to settle in on the last one and talk to you about money...
Explanation: MONEY IS SPIRITUAL
That is why you began to get a little nervous in my fist text and fidgeted in my last one…
This is why there is such an all out attack on the pulpit to make pastor’s uncomfortable on the subject of money.
I have pastor friends who have told me that they have never taught on the subject.
The enemy know that if the church will every have an financial breakthrough then all will be lost!
To be clear:
It’s not that money actually spritual but rather that it is a matter of Lordship.
Since Adam came out of the Garden, people have based their personal value in what they own.
Money is actually neutral - but our relationship with it is the greatest determination of the depth of my relationship with God!
Do you know who is Lord of your life?
Let me see your checkbook register and I will tell you in less than 5 minutes!
Money is about Lordship!
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Look at this statement!
There are only two things that you will worship in this whole world...
No sure things as:
Devil worshippers
Idol worshipers
When you boil it down, there are only two things you can worship:
GOD
MONEY
Satan in NOT God’s greatest enemy!
False doctrine is NOT God’s greatest enemy!
The antichrist is NOT God’s greatest enemy!
THE LOVE OF MONEY IS!
Either you will worship money or worship WITH your money!
I know I’m not supposed to teach like this...
But lets see if that is correct!
What does the bible tell us?
16 of 28 parables deal money and possession - 42%
25% of Jesus words in NT deal with stewardship
1 of 10 verses of the gospels deal with money
Am I the only one that finds it significant that 10% (tithe) of the gospels deal with money?
2,000 of 31,102 verses in the bible deal with money - 6.5%
That is more that two times as many verses on prayer and faith COMBINED!
Tell me again why I’m not supposed to teach on money...
Your relationship with money is a reflection of your relationship with your God!
Physical vs spiritual
Money vs spiritual
So what do we give?
Tithe, offering and sacrificial offerings
Naysayers:
Tithing was under the law!
Incorrect
Hebrews 7 tells us that Abraham paid tithe to the King of Salem
So tithe predates the law - Placing the principle of tithe in every dispensation
What about the dispensation of Innocence?
Garden of Eden...
Was not there something forbidden in the Garden? A tree!
Botanist claim that there are 9 basic tree clarifications in the world
Why not ten?
Because the tenth (tithe) is still in the garden of Eden, being guarded by an angel with a flaming sword!
I gave you a whole chapter of tithing in the NT… Heb 7
So what do we give?
My increase…
Tithe: 10%
First tenth belongs to God
OBEDIENCE
Offering: 5% (temple offering)
First fruit
TRUST
Love offering or Sacrificial offering
As you see or are made aware of needs in the church
LOVE
Where do we give?
Local storehouse.
Tithe and offering is OT
Foundation of giving in the NT
Like everything else, built upon and expanded in the NT
Conclusion:
Change your way of giving.
Most, many of you give as though you are punching your checklist...
It has become mundane to you.
Start giving understanding why you do it.
5 Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness.
6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
5 - Bounty: blessing
6 - Sow as if already blessed
7 - Not of necessity
8 - Grace abounds because of an giver who knows why they give!
We need to spend so time in prayer and worship before you give.
God I bring my tithe to you in obedience.
God I bring my offering to you because I trust you.
God I give sacrificially because I love you.
Most today give by necessity.
Stop giving you offing before church…
Bring it during!
