Gen. 3:8-13                          Whose Questions Will You Answer?                 2/4/96

I.  Introduction                                                                                                                     # 510

    Genesis means origin or beginning = Book of Beginnings.  In order to get there, we

    must go back before the birth of your great grandparents, America, Europe, any

    civilized nation, before the Atlantic ocean existed; back in the thick darkness of eternity

    past - that’s where we read “In the beginning God Created ….”

A.  God as Creator - chapter 1

·        Elohim stresses His majesty & omnipotence

·        He is the rightful owner & ruler of all His creation!

B.  God Instructing & Commanding - chapter 2

·        Jehovah Elohim stresses His self-existence & omnipotence

·        He is the rightful teacher of His creation

C.  Satan as the Prowler - chapter 3:1-5

      1.  Satan seeks & searches for sinners (v. 1) - Job 1:8; 1Pe. 5:8

      2.  Satan presents clever question with evil motives (v. 1) = MURDER (Jn. 8:44)

·        “Does God really say what He means & mean what He says?”

·        “Are the commands of God really for our good?” (v. 5)

When did you last wrestle with these questions?

Regarding such commands as “You shall not lie’, obey those in authority, love

your enemies, do not forsake assembling..,

          3.  Consequences (v. 8)

               a.  Shame toward each other & fear of God’s wrath (death)

               b.  Broken fellowship with God

               c.  Bondage to sin

d.      Death

II.  God as the Seeker

A.     God seeks & searches out the sinner (v. 8)

B.     God presents clear question with righteous motives (v. 9-13)

          He queries us & searches us personally & individually

1.      He seeks confession of our true sinful condition (v. 9)

2.      He seeks confession of personal responsibility for our sin (v. 11)

3.      He seeks confession of the damage done by our sin (v. 13)

Sin affects our own soul, souls of others involved, sent Christ to the cross!!!!

C.     God offers hope to the one who will repent & confess (v. 15)

Will you be real today?  Where are you?  Discouraged, depressed, lusting, coveting, dabbling in pornography, compromising on the job, etc.  THERE’S HOPE IN CHRIST!
