JESUS CAME
32 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”
35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe.
37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.
40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Introduction:
Introduction:
The Incarnation, was a plan conceived in the mind of the infinite God before the dawn of creation.
Bread:
Bread:
In the Bible, the word “bread” is often used metaphorically to convey a variety of meanings, especially spiritual nourishment.
In John, Jesus refers to Himself as :
the Bread of Life
the Living Bread
The Lexham Bible Dictionary Bread in the New Testament
In Matthew and Mark, Jesus metaphorically refers to His miracles as bread for the Jews, yet He allows a Canaanite woman to partake of the “crumbs” (Matt 15:21–28; Mark 7:24–30).
Bread of the Presence
(Leviticus)
Acompanied the “table of the presence” (Num 4:7)
Located in the Holy Place
Along the North side, in front of the veil that closed off the Holy of Holies.
The table required 3 coverings....
The Ark of the Covenant required three coverings....
Bitter on the outside but sweet on the inside
Priests were to eat it all.
Manna:
Manna:
A pot of manna was placed in the Ark of the Covenant.....
On the sixth day, in preparation for the Sabbath, the Israelites were to gather twice as much bread—two omers each (ex 16:22).
The measurement corresponds to the amount of flour prescribed for each loaf of the “Bread of the Presence”
HE CAME!
I. NOT TO REFORM, BUT TO TRANSFORM
I. NOT TO REFORM, BUT TO TRANSFORM
Reformation is very fine in its place, but is not sufficient … That is not our need …
Definition of reform …
To make better or return to a former good state …
To amend—correct …
Our need is not physical or moral, but is spiritual …
Transforms the soul now—the body in eternity …
II. NOT TO REPAIR, BUT TO REPLACE
II. NOT TO REPAIR, BUT TO REPLACE
Like repairing an old automobile or house … It is still the same—just patched up with a new coat of paint …
Jesus came to replace our sinful nature with spiritual nature …
A new heart …
New attitudes …
New outlook …
III. NOT TO SAVE US FROM WRONG-DOING, BUT TO SAVE US FROM WRONG-BEING
III. NOT TO SAVE US FROM WRONG-DOING, BUT TO SAVE US FROM WRONG-BEING
We are by nature children of Satan …
By birth, sinners …
We do wrong because we are wrong …
We are by nature the “children of wrath”—Eph. 2:3 …
Without Christ you are the “living dead” …
Alive in the flesh—
Dead spiritually …
IV. HE CAME TO BRING LIFE
IV. HE CAME TO BRING LIFE
Natural men are dead in trespasses and sins …
John 10:10 …The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
He brought life by overcoming death …
Physical life is in the blood of your veins …
Spiritual life is in the blood of Christ …
V. HE CAME TO DO THE WILL OF THE FATHER
V. HE CAME TO DO THE WILL OF THE FATHER
The Father’s will is that men should be saved …
Conclusion.
Conclusion.
Jesus came to give you life—
He is coming to receive you.[1]
