John 6:59-65 Comments to the disciples
In vv 26-59 we have the conversation arising out of the miracle of the loaves and fishes. He has been teaching in the synagogue. Now John turns to the response of His listeners.
John 6:60–61 NASB

Many of His disciples must refer to more than the twelve. There were always a much larger group of followers everywhere Jesus went, but many of them stood more on the fringes than close to His side. All Jesus’ commentary on being the bread of life caused them to grumble among themselves. So Jesus asked, “Does this cause you to stumble?”
