The Promise of Christmas
The Promise of Christmas
What do I want them to know? That God fulfills His Promises
Why?
What do I want them to do? Trust God that He will fulfill His promises
Why? It gives us renews us by giving us hope and strength
ME
Have you ever time in your life where you asked the question “God will You come through for me?”
Will you lead me through?
God will you show up and lead me through this
Anybody asked that question?
Some
When do we often as this question
When times are good??? NO, it often happens when we face 1 or all of the three things I am going to say
ADVERSITY that I am facing....I am facing this tremendous amount of ADVERSITY, time are not easy, I am feeling
Adversaries there are people who do not want you to press forward, our flesh doesn’t want us to press forward but go back to the slavery in Egypt…because at least in slavery you are feed and know what to expect.
Agony: there is something we want, something that is good but has not happened yet, a relationship, a job, a child
We are asking question “God will you come through?”
If you find yourself here today…you find yourself asking the same question that was asked at the beginning of the Christmas story that took place not 2000 years ago but 4000 years ago by that a married couple, a married couple who were in agony and adversity because they could not get pregnant in a time to not get pregnant was a sign that something was wrong with you and leassend your status in society and they wondered where is God....and it is the people of God asked...
The people of God just a couple generations before we pick up our story in Genesis 12 were living in a perfection relationship with God but then SIN jacked that up and as a result they were in agony, adversity, and face adversaries.
Will God come through? Will God provide a child?
GOD
What God going to show us today is He always comes through....not often the way we expect it....not the way we drew it up.....and He seals it with a promise, this promise we are going to turn to today, not only affects the married couple name Abramham and Sarah but it impacts us today because it through this promise Jesus comes and it is through this promise that we can see that God always fulfils His promises.
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.
And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
What happened?
God calls someone not walking with God, He would have a child and that through
Paul,
How do they respond?
Half-way
The believed but could not see....Why? What was THE BIGGEST REASON THEY DOUBTED TO THE POINT SARAH LAUGHED AT THE THOUGHT IS BECAUSE SARA AND ABRAM WERE NO SPRING CHICKENS....they were 60 and 75 years old
Have we not been there?
Part of our struggle is we do not understand how promises go with God......
Promise to the fulfillment of the promise is a process where you face (adversity; many times
For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void.
Advisaries
Agony
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,
for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Nothing can stop the PROMISES of GOD
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.
But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.
Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.
Blessing of God with us, Savlatoin
