Intro. - We need God’s wisdom

The Purpose Of Proverbs vs1-3

Helping the reader gain wisdom and instruction

wisdom - an umbrella word

instruction - specific - teaching character and discipline

Discernment - going beyond the superficial

Putting instruction to use

produces wise behavior, not just accumulating knowledge

true wisdom entails moral integrity and social consciousness

The Audience Of Proverbs

The inexperienced v4 often youth

The wise vs5-6

One can always learn something new

One can always have greater understanding

Fools - thoughtless, self-centered, indifferent to God

The theme Of Proverbs v7

Fear the Lord - awe towards God

Taking God seriously

Fools despise wisdom and instruction - a rejection of God
