A religious group distinguishable from a larger group by its distinct beliefs and practices. Most notable was the Qumran community, but other groups included the Sadducees (Acts 5:17), Pharisees (Acts 15:5), Essenes, and (possibly) various heretical groups. Christianity was initially considered a sect of Judaism (Acts 24:5).
