III. HOW IS THE DAVIDIC IDEA TREATED IN THE NEW TESTAMENT?

To begin lets’ look at a short clip:

Link to The Gospel of Luke in Youtube at 5:26

Luke 1:30–33 KJV 1900
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
A. THE ANGEL, GABRIEL, DECLARED JESUS CHRIST TO BE HEIR TO DAVID'S THRONE; it was in the "city of David" that He was born, (Lk. 1:30-33).

B. THROUGHOUT HIS EARTHLY MINISTRY MEN APPEALED TO JESUS AS THE POWERFUL "Son of David."

"By some He was recognized as "Messiah, Son of David," (Jn. 7:37-43).

As He rode the lowly ass into Jerusalem, the people shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" (Matt. 21:9, 15; Mk. 11:9-10).
Acts 2:30 KJV 1900
Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
Romans 1:4 KJV 1900
And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
Hebrews 1:5 KJV 1900
For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
2 Timothy 2:8 KJV 1900
Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
Both Peter and Paul recognized Jesus as the "Son of David," (Acts 2:30; Rom. 1:4; Heb. 1:5; 2 Tim. 2:8).
What can we see in these verses?
Revelation 3:7 KJV 1900
And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
Revelation 5:5 KJV 1900
And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
Revelation 22:16 KJV 1900
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
Jesus identified Himself as David's unique Son, (Rev. 3:7; 5:5; 22:16). It is most interesting to compare this with the far-reaching prophecy of Balaam recorded in Numbers 24:17-19.
Numbers 24:17–19 KJV 1900
I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: There shall come a Star out of Jacob, And a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, And shall smite the corners of Moab, And destroy all the children of Sheth. And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; And Israel shall do valiantly. Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, And shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.
CONCLUSION: The closer one examines the promises and prophecies pertaining to David, the clearer will be his understanding and the deeper his appreciation of the Kingdom that is yet to come on earth. Following the ascension of his victorious Lord Jesus, Peter pointed out God's unswerving faithfulness to His covenants, and called the nation to repentance, (Acts 2:19-21).
Acts 2:19–21 KJV 1900
And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
The throne of David will be raised up (Acts 15:13-18),
Acts 15:13–18 KJV 1900
And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
and such as willingly submit themselves under the yoke of Christ, here-and-now, will be permitted to share the glory and blessing of His coming reign. But woe to those who are ashamed of the reproach of His cross!
