The Sovereign One

We have observed the name “Wonderful” - The Supernatural One. He destroys the Dullness of Life.
“Counselor” - The Supervising One. He directs the Decisions of Life. There is no PROBLEM he can’t solve.

…The mighty God…

A counselor can tell you what to do, but can’t always help you to do it. Jesus, on the other hand, the wonderful Counselor, is also the mighty God. He can truly solve your situation.

Today, we are going to observe “the Mighty God” - The Sovereign One. He destroys the Demons of Life. There is no POWER He can’t subdue.
The Mighty God = Hero, champion
An immaterial, supernatural entity that is self-aware with powers to affect the course of human events.
God is a Warrior -
Isaiah 9:4 KJV 1900
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, The rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

And then, I want you to look: His name is Mighty God—Mighty God. This little baby that was upon the straw is the Mighty God of Genesis 1. This little baby who held Mary’s hand as a toddler and learned to walk is the One from whose fingertips suns sprang and oceans dripped. He is the Mighty God. This little boy playing with the shavings in Joseph’s carpenter shop is the One who made every tree, and every hill, and every mountain. He is the Mighty God. We have some people today who’d like to take the deity from the Lord Jesus. I wonder what they’re going to do with Isaiah 9:6, where He is called “The mighty God.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Philippians 2:9–11 KJV 1900
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:9 KJV 1900
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

Decree

Supernatural

Philippians 2:6–7 KJV 1900
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
This speaks of His birth. He was made in the likeness of men.
But He was not conceived like any other child. He was born of a virgin.
Isaiah 7:14 KJV 1900
14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, And shall call his name Immanuel.
Do you find that hard to believe: that a virgin could have a child? Well, may I tell you, the first person to doubt it was Mary herself? When the angel announced this to Mary, Mary said, “How can this be?”
Luke 1:34 KJV 1900
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
And the angel answered in Luke chapter 1, verse 37, “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” (
Luke 1:37 KJV 1900
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
Can you say amen to that?
Adrian Rogers Sermon Archive I. Jesus Is the Supernatural Son of God

Somebody has imagined the Lord Jesus there in the temple being questioned by the theologians and the doctors. He’s twelve years of age. But they ask Him this question: “Son, how old are you?” And Jesus might have smiled and said, “Well, on my mother’s side, I’m twelve years old; but on my Father’s side, I’m older than my mother and as old as my Father.” Friend, what a marvelous person is the Lord Jesus Christ!

He is the Supernatural Son of God by a Virgin!
Philippians 2:7 KJV 1900
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Sinless Supervisor

Philippians 2:8 KJV 1900
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Underscore the word Obedient.
John 8:29 KJV 1900
29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
Matthew 3:17 KJV 1900
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Matthew 17:5 KJV 1900
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
2 Peter 1:17 KJV 1900
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
As the sinless supervising God,
Hebrews 4:15 KJV 1900
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
He is able to know where we came from, where we are, and even where we are going and He is easily able to guide us and direct us down the right path.

Sovereign

Philippians 2:6–7 KJV 1900
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Not only is He the Son of God but He is also God the Son.
Hebrews 1:8 KJV 1900
8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
As the Supernatural Sinless Sovereign, He was more than equipped and prepared to be our

Sacrificial Sustainer

Philippians 2:8 KJV 1900
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
John 1:12 KJV 1900
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
As a loving Father, He sacrificed Himself in order to sustain us.
Now His death was not incidental; it was not accidental.
He did not die as a victim. He did not die as a martyr.
He died in obedience to the Father, that you and I might be saved the death of the cross.
This was in the heart and mind of God before this planet was flung into space. The Bible says of the Lord Jesus, “He was slain before the foundation of the world.”
Revelation 13:8 KJV 1900
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Now, you see, He had to be the supernatural Son of God, born of a virgin, to be the sinless Son of God. But He had to be the sinless Son of God—He was the sovereign Son of God—to do what He did, that He might be the sacrificial Son of God. You see, the blood that was shed on that cross was the blood of God, because He is the God-Man.
Romans 6:23 KJV 1900
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Surviving Satisfier

But we’re not finished yet. The Lord Jesus Christ is also the surviving Son of God. They put Him on the cross; they nailed Him up there and they said, “He is finished.” But He wasn’t finished. Jesus said, “It is finished” (John 19:30)
John 19:30 KJV 1900
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
“The plan is finished; it is done; I’ve paid the sin debt.” And now, look in verse 9—Jesus, the surviving satisfying Son of God:
Philippians 2:9 KJV 1900
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
The grave could not hold Him. He is the Lord of life, and He is the Lord of death. He said, “I have power to lay my life down, and I have power to take it up again.”
Jesus is “the first begotten of the dead.”
Revelation 1:5 KJV 1900
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
Jesus is the surviving satisfying Son of God. Confucius died: he’s dead! Buddha died: he’s dead! Muhammad died: he’s dead! Jesus died and rose again. He’s the living Son of God. “He’s shown to be the Son of God with power … by the resurrection of the dead.”
Romans 1:4 KJV 1900
4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
If this is true, and it is, then the next verse is necessary.
Philippians 2:10 KJV 1900
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Dedication

The bowing of the knee is a clear sign of humility and reverence.
It is the Father’s plan that all created beings will one day worship Jesus Christ. Christ is worthy of every created being’s worship now but many hate Him. Yet, at the second coming of Christ, the whole body of created intelligent beings in all departments of the universe will worship Jesus Christ.
Christ is, and will be honored on three vastly different levels.

In Heaven

—There the precious name of Jesus is honored as it is nowhere else. When the name of Jesus is heard in the heavenly realm, it is the catalyst for rejoicing and praise. In Heaven the name of Jesus is a constant source of praise,
Revelation 4:10–11 KJV 1900
10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Revelation 7:9–11 KJV 1900
9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; 10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. 11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,
Revelation 19:1–3 KJV 1900
1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: 2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. 3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.

In Earth

—For most, the name of Jesus is nothing more than a by word. It is to be used like the words, damn, hell, and God. Yet, there are some who truly reverence the name of Jesus. When the sweet melody of this name is heard, the mind of the saint goes back to the hour when Jesus came in and lifted the weight of sin. Our minds return to the myriad of times Jesus has appeared upon the storms of our lives and has spoken peace to the billowing waves that have threatened our peace and sanity. While there are a few who love and worship that name, there is coming a day when the name of Jesus will be exalted throughout the entire earth. The day will come when the earth will bow at the sweet name of Jesus!

In Hell

—While Jesus was here on earth, the demons gave Him deep respect and reverence, Ill. Mark 5:6; Luke 4:41; James 2:19. However, they still work against Him and try to overthrow His kingdom. They do this by promoting false systems of worship and by spreading liberal theology, but the day will come when all the demons of Hell, all the henchmen of Satan and even the devil himself will bow at the feet of Jesus and will confess Him to be Lord, Rev. 20:10. (Ill. Rom. 14:11—I don’t know if the devil and demons have knees and tongues, but they will prostrate themselves before the Lord of Glory and they will exalt His name before they are consigned to an eternity in Hell!)
Philippians 2:11 KJV 1900
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Declaration

There is a day coming when every created intelligence will agree with the Father that Jesus Christ is Lord. The infidels, atheists and skeptics will all bow the knee and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, even when experiencing the pangs of eternal punishment.
The moral man, who did not have time for Jesus because he was too busy trying to do good works, will cry out in hells torments that Jesus is Lord.
The religious man, who was so sure his way was right and took himself and multitudes of others down the road to destruction, will plead for the Lord to help but it will be too late (
Matthew 7:21–23 KJV 1900
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
NOTE: If you are not a Christian, I warn you on the authority of God’s Word that if you will not acknowledge Christ as Lord in this lifetime, you will do so in the next life, and it will be hell enough to know He is Lord and be eternally separated from Him. The scriptures make it plain that now is the day of salvation. Now is the time to receive God’s gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. The Bible speaks of no second chances in eternity to respond to the Lordship and Saviorship of Christ.
Let us bow our knees and bend our proud hearts to Christ while there is still time.
Matthew 2:1–2 KJV 1900
1 Now when Jesus was born in Beth-lehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Matthew 2:11 KJV 1900
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
Are you willing to do as the wisemen and bow and confess?
