Intro - story
Intro - story
Intro
Talking Point 1
- We look forward to our Holiday celebrations that are on the way.
- As we get ready I'm sure that many people have encountered bumps in the road
- sometimes it is easy to get off track
- when we look around we can see that the devil is out to steal kill and destroy everything that's in our lives
- just like the Grinch that stole Christmas
Talking Point 2
- we encounter spiritual warfare that is out to take the joy from our lives
Intro - Anti-thesis (the world view)
These are contrary points that you will disprove
Talking Point 1
- on in this Advent Sunday as first lady Michelle Dan I broadcast from the basement of our house.
- In spite of the trials that we go through
- in spite of us not being able to worship at the church
- we say today to the devil you will not take our joy
- no matter where it breaks down no matter what happens
- today we shall have joy on purpose knowing that Chris is in our life.
Intro - Thesis
(connect back to scripture storyline)
Recap the scripture story – retell and give the overview
We see the Thessalonian church under the constant pressures, trials and tribulations of the world. This pressure has the influence of drawing them back into idol worship, living a life that is not pleasing God and satisfying their fleshly desires. The things of this world are stealing that Joy that the once had in Christ. Paul tells them that they should strive to please God in everything they do and to not be fooled by chasing the pleasures of the world. He tells them to “rejoice”, claim, strive towards your joy on a daily basis but Loving the Lord, caring for your fellow man and to love yourself by living in communion with Jesus.
Proposition
- What is the claim? (relevance for today)
The scripture wants us to do (what?)
We can continually move towards a life of Joy.
The scripture wants us to do this by (how?)
We can find joy by loving our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and putting him first in everything we do.
The scripture wants us to take action towards who/what/whereby (to who?) When we find this love we can then share it with others and by our sharing we can begin to find a more deeper love and increase the joy in our life.
- What is the focus? (pull from your exegesis form)
This passage centers around intentional purposeful effort to claim take by the joy has slipped away.
which is the central, controlling and unifying theme of the sermon.
One word here: Claim it and take it back.
Your Joy will not happen back accident you will have to trust in the Lord and through faith and the power of God take back the joy in your life.
The theme is related to: we see this especially how we respond to trials and tribulation that happen to us.
- What is the function?
The hearers will be change by the message because during this Christmas season take to time to realize that the gifts that your are able to purchase are a heavenly manifestation of God’s heavenly blessings. These early possessions and gift are not our Joy but our Joy is our relationship with Jesus Christ.
As a result, they will look at life differently, differently
Its not the ring your receive but the relationship that it represents. Its not the new car or new house that is the joy but the heart of the person and the love they have for you that is the joy.
If someone comes and takes all of that you wil still have joy. You have all the gifts you needin Christ.
People don’t realize that:
With Christ you have everything you need.
They will have revelation ah, a-ha, moment about
Today God is/we must remember:
1. Rejoice knowing that you have Jesus
2. Rejoice for the people planted in your life
3. Rejoice for your heavenly gifts from on high

Psalm 1: 1-3
"Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do."

Talking Point 1
- 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.
- God wants to change us. I pray that this Christmas you are walking closer with God than you were on last year. No we are not perfect. But the scripture says he desires to sanctify us.
- (Explain sanctifying grace – take your time here)

Point 2 - Subpoint 1- Title….
What has happened?
- Our family relationships have slipped away
- The pandemic has brought some of us closer together but cause some of use to grow apart.
- Relationships that we distance have gotten more distant
- We can reclaim our joy by rejoicing and thanking God for the people he has planted in our lives
Talking Point 1
- God has blessed us so that the love of Jesus Christ shines on us day by day.
- We have life health and strength
- We have peace of mind
- But what are we doing with the light of Christ that shines in our life
- Are we keeping it to ourselves or are we sharing it with others.
Talking Point 2
- Song: This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
(say the words of the song)
- Who are you gonna shine on this Christmas season? Who are you gonna love on? This is how we take back our Joy.
- Satan is actively breaking up families as we speak. Satan is actively sewing strife in our families.
- If you want to take back you joy. Take back your families, take back your marriages, back you children.
- Go and take back what the devil has stolen from you!
- How and I going to do that. Just call on the name of the Lord.

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
- So while you are shopping on amazon, give go praise and thank that you have the means even but gifts.
- Last you could not even give cards. Or like they say you did not have two wooden nickles to rub together.
- While you are shopping for your children, thank God that you are still here to see your children this holiday.
- If you parents are still living call them on the phone tell them you love them. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow.
- 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

- Some are saying that Pastor you don’t understand that old grynch is in my life. That is always trying to steal my joy. I’m not talking about he devil. I’m talking about people.
- Maybe you do know the story of the grynch.
(tell the story of what he did)
(the town of Whoville)
(went from house to house while they were sleep)
(but when the got of on Christmas morning there we no gifts)
They still celebrated, they still had each other, they were still to get up, the had the gift of Christmas in their lives.
Even though their trees were empty.
The grynch was so moved that at that point his heart was changed he gave back the gift. Even God can change grynch.
Complication we are planted in a world that is constantly pulling at us and our faith is challenged day by day. We go through constant trials and tribulation that test our faith. But you can take by your joy by
1. Rejoice knowing that you have Jesus

Invitation – Altar Call
"Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness.
Right now I accept that Jesus is my Lord and savior.
I believe that Jesus died for my sins and that you raised Him to life.
Right now, I confess that Jesus is my Lord and savior and will follow Him from this day forward.
In the name of Jesus. Amen."
Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen.
“Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are proved right when You speak and justified when You judge. Right now, I confess that Jesus is my Lord and savior and will follow Him from this day forward.
In the name of Jesus. Amen."
