John is one of what we call the Gospels.
Matthew, Mark, Luke, John
The first 3 synoptic Gospels - record nearly all of the same events in the life of Jesus with different viewpoints
Viewing a car accident at a 4 way junction and 3 witnesses standing at 3 different points of the junction
Each witness the same events, but different aspects of the accident
John is different though - It records a different aspect in mind - Contains a few special miracles
John uses simple language - 600 words he uses in his writings - EQUIVALENT to a about the vocabulary of a 7 year old child
John simply, succinctly, and powerfully gives proof in definitive tone - Jesus is God
Luke shows that Jesus is the Son of man, and John shows Jesus is the Son of God
The book of John was written by John, one of the sons of Zebedee, who were called the sons of thunder.
This signifies the type of relationship that he had with James, his brother; abrasive and disruptive
This personality comes through the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke - In Luke 9 - James & John ask to call fire down from heaven to destroy a village of Samaria after the rejected Jesus and the disciples after hearing that they were on their way to Jerusalem
John became the pastor of Ephesus, lived a long life, was exiled to Patmos, and died on Patmos.
It is likely that John wrote the Gospel of John from either Ephesus or Patmos.

Jesus is Eternal

John 1:1a KJV 1900
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Word - logos - Greek word was a thunderous statement - sum of all reasoning or logic
This culture looked and longed for reasoning that would explain their purpose, their reason for life. The Greek culture wanted answers, and looked for answers in idols, religions, what was known to them, and any other resource they could find
John states clearly - EVERYTHING you are looking for, everything you long for, everything you are searching for; is found in Jesus! He’s the sum of all logic!
Was - eimi - exist -
When we look at this verb, we think of something that used to be and has changed state of being
Cup of water - It WAS full
The usage in the Greek is different. It is used an imperfect tense. In Greek, imperfect tense speaks of not something that used to be or has been completed, but rather a continuous state.
Jesus did not stop being the full sum of all logic or reasoning, but continuously is the answer to every question and every moment of wonder we may ever have.
Only God Himself could be the answer, the Word, the source of all wisdom and logic!

Jesus is God

John 1:1b–2 KJV 1900
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.
More than one person within the Godhead - Jesus is one of those persons
Deuteronomy 6:4 KJV 1900
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
God - Elohim - expresses a plurality and singularity
Arithmetic
NOT 1+1+1=3
Rather 1x1x1=1
Illustrations of this:
Triune universe - space, matter, time
Space - length, breadth, height
Matter - energy, motion, phenomena
Time - past, present, future
3 parts - 1 God

Jesus is Power

John 1:3–5 KJV 1900
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
All things - panta - all things individually - every thing separately
In 7 days Jesus made:
Astronomer’s measurement is in light year:
Light travels at 186,273 miles per second - going around the earth’s equator 7 1/2 times
Equals to about 6 trillion miles
Our sun is about 8 light minutes away
Stars estimated to be billions of light years away
Some of the stars are larger than we can envision
Antares - hold 64 million of our sun
Constellation Hercules - 100 million stars the size of Antares
Scientist study the building block of life - the atom
1 simple of water - take all the molecules changed them to grains of sand - enough sand to build a concrete highway half a mile wide and 30cm deep all the way from London to Kuwait
Jesus made every thing, all things that we see and experience here on this earth
In full transparency, it was not 7 days that Jesus made everything - I knew it! How could Jesus make all this in 7 days?!
It actually took 6 days!
Jesus rested on the 7th day.
Jesus’ power is so incredible that He is life and made the life, light, of men.
Cleaning out the garage - transform what was a pile of boxes into a place to exercise
dead bugs, living creatures, dirt, dust
No amount of atheism or religiosity can overcome the light of Jesus
His light exposes those areas that need cleaned
Christmas lights - take an area that is dark and transforms it into a spectacle to wonder and behold
The light of Jesus transforms a life to a beauty and picture of His grace and power
Proverbs 4:18 KJV 1900
But the path of the just is as the shining light, That shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
This is what Jesus can do! He can not one clean the areas of our life that filthy
